Right after Shakur Stevenson‘s successful title defense against Artem Harutyunyan, Ryan Garia attacked the boxer from Newark, brutally criticizing Shakur’s performance. Being a headache to Stevenson, Garcia publicly called Shakur’s title defense “boring” on X. But, referring to Floyd Mayweather‘s career, Shakur strongly objected to Garcia and others who branded him as “boring.”
Well, it was not the first time that Garcia found Shakur’s fight dull when he beat Harutyunyan. Even when Stevenson dethroned Edwin De Los Santos to become the WBC Lightweight champion, ‘KingRy’ had jeered at Shakur’s boxing, calling him “boring as s**t.” But, in Shakur’s opinion, Garcia and others are simply jealous as he continues winning! In his latest interview with Cigar Talk, Stevenson opened up.
On being asked why he was being hated, Shakur answered, “Because I’m going up. When I wasn’t going up, it wasn’t that. When you watch a lot of the greats, ‘Bud’ [Terence Crawford] when he starts going up, n***a starts hating. Even ‘Tank,’ for years and years, n****s hated on him, right? Hate, come with it.” He went on.

“All these dudes gon’ hate me because I’m a winner,” declared the 27-year-old. “But, at the end of the day, it is what it is. I gotta live with it. I watch Floyd, still to this day, had one of the greatest careers of all time. Everybody hates Floyd,” he added casually.
At this, while one may praise Shakur Stevenson for taking a stand for himself, the boxing world was not happy about the comparison Stevenson made.
Shakur Stevenson gets ridiculed as he compares his situation to Floyd Mayweather’s
After Shakur Stevenson’s statements made it to X, several fans reacted to it. One took offense to Shakur’s statements. At Stevenson’s age, Floyd Mayweather went by the ring name of ‘Pretty Boy.’ “Has he not seen Prettyboy fight?” they asked while ridiculing Shakur Stevenson for making the comparison.
Oh hell nah, Mayweather was a menace! Comparing himself to the great Floyd Mayweather 🤣 Has he not seen Prettyboy fight?

One fan pointed out that Shakur is currently undefeated with 22 fights. In their opinion, Shakur can actually reach Mayweather with “more fights.”
Shakur 22-0 10 kos that’s not far off he just needs more fights lol

According to one fan, one must praise Floyd Mayweather’s ability to counterpunch. For example, you can refer to Canelo Alvarez vs. Mayweather. Mayweather not only dodged Canelo, but he also answered every punch Canelo attempted. However, this fan feels that Shakur prefers to score points and then fight defensively rather than win against his opponent decisively.
And when you threw punches at Floyd, he tagged you right back like the best counter puncher ever lol
Shakur go up in points, then defend all fight

One user feels that Shakur Stevenson needs to fight a knockout artist and score a great win against them for him to receive the kind of respect Floyd Mayweather receives. They even cited the example of Diego Corrales’ fight against Floyd Mayweather in 2001 where Floyd one-sidedly defeated Corrales, a then-undefeated fighter who was feared by many for his knockout wins over most of his opponents.
Exactly. I need shakur to have a corrales type fight. Ppl thought that was 50–50 going in and Floyd annihilated him

When Floyd Mayweather became ‘Money’, there was a greater emphasis on defense. However, while he carried the ring name ‘Pretty Boy,’ Mayweather was more aggressive and preferred fighting toe-to-toe. To testify to that fact, one can at least allude to Mayweather vs. Diego Corrales. S0, one argued that ‘Pretty Boy’ was “nowhere near boring.”
Pretty Boy was no where near boring.
