Think of the biggest heavyweight rivalries in recent times. You sure would have Tyson Fury and  Deontay Wilder high up on your list. The two have faced each other inside the ring three times. The first bout took place in 2018, which resulted in a draw. The second bout took place in 2020, which resulted in a one-sided victory for ‘The Gypsy King.’ However, they were destined to meet again for a third time, when Fury won once again but not in a dominant fashion. Needless to say, both heavyweight titans gave the boxing world three entertaining bouts. Subsequently, both boxers made a fortune, especially Fury, who made an estimated $73,00,000.

One of the reasons why the fans were invested in this bout was not only because of their styles but also the animosity between each other. During the lead-up to their bout, neither shied away from making their hostility known. However, do you wonder if they still have that hatred for one another? In a recent turn of events, Fury shows respect for his former rival. What does he say? Let’s find out below.

After their third encounter in the ring, Fury went to Wilder’s corner to embrace him, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ shoved him away. Thereafter, on social media, the former heavyweight champion continued to allege that Fury intentionally fights with gloves with less padding to gain an edge. However, in contrast, the WBC heavyweight champion does not share the same animosity for Wilder.

In a recent interview with Boxing on TNT, the 35-year-old acknowledged that Wilder does not have nice things to say about him. However, he has great respect for Wilder and the time they shared in the ring. Reflecting on the same, he stated, “Fair play to Deontay, he has got the heart of a lion. No matter what he says about me, you have to admire someone you fought three times. Whether I had horse shoes in my gloves or he had a suit too heavy, I respect that fact that we’ve had the trilogy and knocked lumps out of each other.”

It is usually wholesome to see two rivals, who once hated each other, show due respect after it is all said and done. But will Wilder reciprocate this respect? Time will reveal.
