According to eminent boxing writer and journalist Dan Rafael, the recently held fight between Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko led to sales of roughly 150k PPVs. With the price of a single subscription fixed at $59.99, the overall pay-per-view revenue stands in the periphery of $9 million. The fight night on May 20 saw around fourteen thousand boxing lovers filling up the MGM Grand Arena.
As for the individual purses, while Haney was guaranteed $4 million, for Lomachenko, it stood at around $3 million. But before he could settle down happily, ‘The Dream’ received an update that the Nevada State Athletic Commission would take away ten percent of the fight purse, which amounts to $400k. They penalized him for wantonly pushing Lomachenko during their face-off.

Over twenty thousand people have viewed the post since Michael Benson‘s tweet came today. Quite a few of the comments that came in reply were intriguing. Finding the information laughable, the following user says that most expected the match to be a walkover for Devin Haney. But Lomachenko proved otherwise. According to the user Mediumrare, Haney does not merit the earnings he receives.
Lol. Most of them were tuning in for Loma as well. Haney doesn't deserve the money he gets

Unfortunately, finding the entire affair shameful, the following user The Pigeon contends that Haney will never be a big-time PPV crowd-puller. After all, it was his hometown, but they howled at him as he struggled against the Ukrainian Lomachenko.
embarrassing, Haney will never be a PPV star, getting boo’ed in his hometown against a ukrainian

Perhaps user James understands the economics of boxing pretty well. He theorizes that nobody expected the Lomachenko-Haney match-churning megabucks. Hence James rests his hopes on an upcoming Gervonta Davis fight.
no one was expecting high numbers anyway. hopefully tank fight is next 🤝

Echoing a similar line, user Tom is relatively conservative in putting the PPV sales much lower than stated. Hence he finds it lamentable, considering the amount of money Haney received in his past few fights. Moreover, it seemingly discourages Tom about how such a format or setup would work in the long run.
Not great, and realistically will be a lot less than that. To think how many millions Devin has been picking up from previous fights as well. Have to wonder how these things are sustainable.

The following user, whose profile shows him as a boxing / UFC analyst, stated matter-of-factly. Without an iota of doubt, Vasiliy Lomachenko and Devin Haney are technically brilliant. But sadly, the current market economics is very harsh on crafty boxing displays. According to the user, people yearn for either a trash talker who entertains them or a boxer with a knack for early stoppages. As a result, PPV sales of fighters such as Haney and Shakur Stevenson will stay limited, he postulates.
While Loma & Haney are fantastic technicians, the harsh reality is… the casual market pays little heed to the sweet science element. They need either a brash personality/KO’s to satisfy their ‘combat sports needs’. Haney & Shakur’s PPV numbers may well be handicapped, long term.

The much-hyped match between the two biggest names drew scathing criticisms from several corners because of the marked scores. Many even felt that it was Lomachenko who deserved the win. However, the closely fought bout, on the whole, mustered considerable appreciation. The much older Ukrainian surprised everyone with a dazzling display of boxing for which he is well renowned.
