Now that Gervonta Davis has successfully returned to boxing with a stunning eighth-round finish over Frank Martin, rival Ryan Garcia hopes to see ‘Tank’ enter the pro ring against the WBC Super-Lightweight title holder, Devin Haney. And since ‘KingRy’ had the opportunity to fight both Davis and Haney, he predicted a potential outcome of ‘Tank’ vs. ‘The Dream’. However, a certain section of the boxing world outright rejected Garcia’s opinion on X.

When Ryan Garcia faced Gervonta Davis, the latter was the more accurate puncher since he landed 34% of his punches before knocking out ‘KingRy’ in the seventh round of the fight. On the other hand, when Garcia entered the ring against Devin Haney this year, despite being out-landed by ‘The Dream,’ the 25-year-old managed an MD victory. However, after the full sparring footage of ‘Tank’ vs. ‘The Dream’ was allegedly leaked by Floyd Mayweather after Tank’s recent victory, the boxer from California believed Devin could stop Davis.

Yesterday, moments after the sparring video was released, Garcia announced that he would like to see Devin Haney and Tank share the ring only to witness ‘The Dream’ establishing his dominance over ‘Tank’ inside the squared circle. “Damn, Devin Haney stopped Gervonta Davis, that’s wild,” wrote Ryan Garcia. “I want to see that. Would be a good one,” he wrote on X.

However, a number of fans were not willing to accept Ryan Garcia’s conjecture. A fan was upset with Garcia’s comment and protested saying, “Haney definitely wouldn’t beat Tank.

Similarly, a fan claimed that sparring was different from a professional fight. In their opinion, Davis would “dominate little Devin.”

In the same vein, one announced that “@RyanGarcia knows Devin would get slept” by Gervonta Davis the way ‘KingRy’ was knocked out by ‘Tank’.

But, on the other hand, a fan thought ‘Tank’ was “ducking” Haney.

However, one held on to hope and said the fight would happen “in real time.

But, can we say Devin Haney would beat Gervonta Davis based on the leaked footage?

A brief analysis of the sparring footage of Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney

Initially, while Devin Haney occupied the center of the ring, Gervonta Davis fought defensively from the outside of the pocket. However, in the blink of an eye, Davis was able to get Haney against the ropes and land combinations. This shows us the unpredictable quickness Davis has and his ability to startle his opponents with accuracy. Even if Davis is outside the pocket, he is still very much in control of the fight as he is very well aware of the range and keeps his eyes on every single movement made by Haney.

On the other hand, despite getting Davis within his range, Haney seemed to hesitate as he bothered not to close in on the distance but continued with his jabs to the body. Meanwhile, Davis showed signs of early exhaustion. However, ‘Tank’ was fluid and displayed his ability to move and dodge. But, then again, there were moments when Haney looked more active consistently. At the same time, one must also acknowledge Davis’ ability to spot a gap. For example, towards the end of the almost 2o-minute-clip, although tired, Davis landed an uppercut to Haney’s chin while the latter had ‘Tank’ against the ropes.

With that said, one can certainly expect a very competitive fight between Devin Haney and Gervonta Davis should the fight happen. Anyway, do you agree with Ryan Garcia’s prediction? Let us know in the comments below.
