Can Hamzah Sheeraz really stand up to Terence Crawford, or is this a mismatch waiting to happen?

The dust hasn’t even settled from the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov fight earlier this month, and Crawford seems to have another offer ready. Who is the offer from? Well, as Frank Warren gears up for the all-British clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, he has suggested rising Middleweight star Hamzah Sheeraz from the event’s undercard as a great matchup for Crawford. What’s even better, Sheeraz has agreed.

The undefeated Hamzah Sheeraz, 25, is set to face fellow Englishman Tyler Denny, 33, on September 21st at the iconic Wembley Stadium. Following Crawford’s victory over Madrimov, the logical next step for him would be to move up to middleweight, eventually working his way to super middleweight for a potential showdown with Canelo Alvarez. Warren believes that Sheeraz could be on a collision course with Crawford next year, setting up an exciting fight between the two.

Speaking to Frank Warren, who was in his holiday home in Portugal, the reporter from Seconds Out probed him about his thoughts on how Terence Crawford may fare against Canelo Alvarez, who is a much bigger fighter than him. This prompted the head of Queensberry Promotions to reveal his idea to pit Sheeraz and Crawford against each other first.

“I think that would be a good fight to do next year…. If you get the right moment and let Hamzah have a little bit more experience, I think that’d be a good fight for him,” Warren told the reporter. Interestingly, Crawford hasn’t hinted at his desire to immediately move on to the next weight class yet. Plus, some were hoping for a rematch against Madrimov, since he did manage to push Crawford to his limit.

Nonetheless, Crawford would have to move to super middleweight sometime if he eventually wants to face off against Canelo Alvarez. Regardless, seeing the statement from his promoter when Michael Benson shared it on X, Sheeraz revealed he is open to the clash, but at the moment he is focused on Denny. He wrote, “Never say never. First stop September 21st before anything else.” That aside, who is Hamzah Sheeraz?

Have an interesting take?

Hamzah Sheeraz, born on May 25, 1999, in Slough, Berkshire, boasts an impressive record of 20-0-0 with 16 knockouts. Known for his explosive power and remarkable knockouts, he has rapidly climbed the middleweight ranks. Sheeraz currently holds the Commonwealth middleweight title and previously secured the WBO European junior-middleweight belt.

Sheeraz has scored notable wins against Liam Williams, Francisco Emanuel Torres, and Austin Williams, the latter being a big WBC middleweight title eliminator. With a family background in athletics, he kicked off his pro career in 2017 and has been making waves as one of Britain’s top young talents under Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. His knockout power and growing profile have even drawn comparisons to some of boxing’s greats, and he’s definitely someone to watch in the sport in the coming years.

It’s difficult to say whether Terence Crawford would consider taking up this offer to fight Sheeraz sometime in 2025, but if he does, a fight between them wouldn’t be difficult to make. Plus, Crawford would get some more experience before facing the big baddy at Super Middleweight. Do you think he should take the bout?
