The endless wait for a Tyson Fury fight continues. It’s been over five months, and the reigning champion is yet to return home to a ring. Now reports of his Australian tour are filtering in. The Mancunian is in the southern hemisphere to cheer up his friend, Kiwi Heavyweight Joseph Parker. The latter fights Samoa-born Australian boxer Faiga Opelu in Melbourne today. Though unconfirmed, updates are that Fury may finally get a fight against Australian Heavyweight Demsey McKean.

After the Dillian Whyte fight in April last year, Tyson Fury declared in August that he was retiring from boxing. But three months later, he returned to defend his WBC title from Derek Chisora. Thus, the path to the undisputed question was open as it put him in the crosshairs of a much-anticipated fight against Oleksandr Usyk. Unfortunately, however, the discussions fell apart at the negotiation table, disappointing many fans.

So sometime later, news came around about Fury and former heavyweight champion Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr., but sadly, reported financial constraints pulled the plugs on this exciting clash. Since Joe Joyce has reactivated the rematch clause to avenge his recent loss to Zhelei Zhang, Fury has few alternatives besides returning to familiar faces Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte.

Finally, a fight down under for Tyson Fury?

The Mancunian recently sparked a furor by openly dissing commentator Joe Rogan, who made an otherwise prosaic observation that UFC Heavyweight champion Jon Jones would be the winner against Fury in a free-for-all fight. Hence observers would be closely watching the English boxer’s moves in Australia. According to the article on BoxingScene, McKean’s manager Angelo Di Carlo hinted at talks with Fury.

On his part, the world champion said, “I’m definitely keen. It may even be my next fight over here. I just haven’t got an opponent yet, so we’re going to figure it out. Over the next few days, we’re going to be traveling around to a few different states and looking at some potential venues for my next fight. Australians are always crazy boxing fans, so it would be great to get the Gypsy King Down Under.”

Thirty-two-year-old McKean, also into mixed martial arts, maintains an undefeated boxing record. 67% of his wins came through knockouts. Though most of his fights happened in Australia, that hasn’t prevented the Queenslander from being a sparring partner to Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte.
