The moment Larry Holmes became the Heavyweight champion in June 1978, it marked the beginning of his era. Holmes was one of the most exceptional Heavyweights the world had ever witnessed. Though he did not maintain a perfectly clean slate boxing record, his boxing resume is not something one can ignore. Just one fight on the night of June 9, 1978 put Larry Holmes’s name in the headlines making him the talk of the town. ‘Easton Assassin’ retired in 2002 at the age of 52, making him one of the oldest active professional boxers of his time.
Recently, a clip of Holmes’s fight against Ken Norton has gone viral on the internet. It has caused a stir among boxing fans who can’t get over the fight which had crowned Holmes as the world’s Heavyweight champion. The fight went the distance between the two and became popular for its sensational last round.

The clip is posted by Ringside Seat on Twitter and shows the last round of the fight between the two. As the bell rings to begin the final round, both the boxers rush to the center of the ring to face each other. It can be clearly seen that both the boxers are tired beyond the fight but are not giving up.

The fight starts with Norton throwing the first jab after which both the fighters continue exchanging jabs missing some and landing some. However, Holmes can get Norton on the ropes and lands a left-right combo. Holmes manages to slip some punches and counter Norton with his combos. Years after his retirement, Holmes made a shocking revelation.

The two continued exchanging jabs, and the tension at that moment compelled the audience to stand up from their seats. Loud cheers could be heard as Holmes ended up winning the fight via a split decision. He was then crowned the Heavyweight champion of the world. @HipMrBully is in awe of this fight.
