Eddie Hearn has emerged as a leader in the promotional side of boxing. Today, his hold is not just limited to the UK. With major marquee fighters residing in the US, his business needs its stable in the country too. In these pursuits, the ace promoter has now inaugurated his company’s first boxing gym in the country.
Matchroom Boxing and LA-based Churchill Boxing Club have announced a commercial partnership, facilitating the promotion to expand its base in the US. In a ceremony at the facility, Hearn said, “Our business continues to expand globally and we wanted to do something different. It was important for us to provide a stateside facility for our stable and our talent that we felt was trusted and elite.” Located in California, the gym strengthens Hearn’s hold on the American boxing scene. And fans seemed to agree.

Fans welcome Eddie Hearn’s gym in the US
While sharing snippets of the facility on his X account, Hearn wrote, “Very proud to open our first @matchroomboxing US gym today. A World class facility for our fighters to use in LA, thanks to Peter Berg and the Churchill Boxing team, looking forward to the future.” While most fans welcomed this strategic move by Hearn, some sects remained critical of it. One recognized how the promoter has expanded beyond the limits of his bastion, the UK. They felt it was a good move for the sport overall, noting, “It’s great for boxing.”
Awesome. Investing all over the place. UK, Mexico, USA. It's great for boxing 👏🏽🙏🏽

Another brought their shade with them. They reminded Hearn of how he continues to promote fighters who’ve come under the VADA scanner. For instance, the case of Conor Benn.
Hope there’s enough room under that ring for the Matchroom Roster to hide when VADA come knocking

A user was not okay with the location of the gym. They thought California was not the ideal location for it.
Why in LA the homeless capital of the world they shoot up in public and is not illegal. crime rate out the roof shootings robberies if your not in the USA you know exactly what I'm saying I'm just letting it be known

Doubling down was another fan who suggested Newark and New York as viable expansion options.
At some point you may want to consider New York and or Newark NJ.

With his entry into the American market through his gym, Hearn strengthens his grip on his business. Why would he not? He comes from such a legendary lineage.

Matchroom, a familial affair
Hearn’s footings in the business is not a new affair, it’s more familial. In 1982, his father, Barry Hearn, founded Matchroom Sport. After having dominated snooker, the company branched out into boxing. Meanwhile, right after education, young Hearn went with a sports management company to represent golfers. Soon, he’d enter Matchroom to promote online poker worldwide. However, the mantle of Matchroom boxing would be soon handed to Eddie, who by now was well-versed in the sport.
With multiple feathers on his cap as a promoter, including spearheading the $1 Billion (the first-ever) deal between Matchroom and DAZN, he emerged as a force in the business. Today, with major fighters of the industry under his roster, including Anthony Joshua, Devin Haney, Dmitry Bivol, Andy Cruz, and Katie Taylor, he leads the way in the business of boxing. With each move he takes, he pushes not just his business but also the sport of boxing into a brighter future.
