Floyd Mayweather is considered one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport by many. However, behind his greatness was the hands of his father and uncle who brought him up in a boxing-rich environment and shaped him as a champion. After a relatively successful career, Roger Mayweather transitioned into a second career as a boxing trainer, and this is where he truly made his mark. His boxing knowledge and mentoring skills were highly regarded, and he went on to train several successful fighters, including his nephew Mayweather.
It was in 2020 that the legendary trainer passed away, a week after the passing of Mayweather’s ex Josie Harris. As he aged he faced several health challenges including diabetes and other medical issues which ultimately led to him passing away at 58. His death was undoubtedly a matter of significant loss to the whole Mayweather family. Back then the CEO of Mayweather Promotions called it a “sad day” for the family. Recently, Leonard Ellerbe shared a post paying homage to “Black Mamba”, captioning the photo by simply writing, “Dodge.” Ellerbe paid tribute to the late trainer, who is still remembered by boxers for being a great teacher.
