The year 2023 might be one of the best so far for the sport of boxing, however, it is not the case for Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of Muhammad Ali. His first bout earlier in May was declared a no contest and now the second bout has ended in a loss. He came face-to-face against Sona Akale at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tusla, and received the first loss of his career. His record now stands at 8 wins and 1 loss.

Meanwhile, Sona Akale, the boxer in question has made a successful return after his previous loss earlier this year. However, even this loss has not broken the spirit of Walsh as he recently roped in several boxing legends and took inspiration from them.

After months of hard work, a loss can be devastating, this is especially so if one faces the first defeat of their career. It can be devastating for one to finally suffer a setback after being successful in all of their previous bouts. However, Ali’s grandson appears to be very strong mentally as he plans to bounce back from this loss. He recently took to Instagram as he penned down a message for his followers writing, “Failure is the mother of all success.”

 

He shared several pictures of himself inside the ring along with pictures of boxing legends as well.  He shared the video of 19-year-old Floyd Mayweather breaking down after his controversial Olympic defeat. He also shared the picture of Mike Tyson staring down at the opponent he knocked down. It appears that Walsh is prepared to take the lessons from his defeats and rise to even greater heights. Moreover, his fans joined his mother and tried consoling the  boxer.

Meanwhile, Walsh’s opponent had a very interesting background before he started boxing. And he weighed in on his recent victory over Walsh

What does Walsh’s opponent have to say about his victory?

Sona Akale, who is over a decade older than Walsh, notably started boxing 2 years before the Las Vegas resident. Moreover, he even used to be a hip-hop artist with the alias ‘Slink Proper’. And now he has even managed to make his name echo in the boxing world as well with his recent victory. As he spoke with the Mayweather Channel, he attributed his success to patience.

He stated, “Oh, sometimes, [you’ve] got to be patient; [you’ve] got to wait for it because, you know, ah, time, time is a funny thing; first of all, it heals all wounds. Time heals all wounds…”.

Speaking of the importance of consistency, he stated that a lot of people do not remain regular with a task and thus are unable to achieve success. Undoubtedly this mindset allowed him to rise back up after getting stopped in the 6th round by Cameron Krael earlier this year.
