Lightweight phenom Ryan Garcia recently tested his mettle against the WBA (regular) lightweight world champion, Gervonta Davis, in a quest for lightweight glory, albeit unsuccessfully. Meanwhile, it is a known fact that Garcia’s trainer, Joe Goossen, had an instrumental role in preparing him for his fight against Davis. It has now been reported that Garcia has parted ways with Goossen after his loss.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN, first confirmed the news and announced it on social media. However, there is no information on who his new trainer will be. Garcia had contacted Goossen prior to his boxing return on April 9, 2022. Notably, he had taken a 15-month hiatus to focus on his mental well-being. The trio then went on to work together for three fights, including Garcia’s fights with Javier Fortuna and Emmanuel Tagoe.

Goossen, on the other hand, had previously detailed his experience working with Garcia. He said, “Like I say and I’ll say it again because it’s true. You don’t necessarily train Ryan Garcia, people can take that negatively. You do train him. But, on the other hand, you have to collaborate with him, because he’s got his ideas and his thoughts.” He also mentioned that Garcia had the mindset of a coach.
