Not sure whether Ryan Garcia has seen this map. But if he does, then for sure he will bolt out of his seat. There doesn’t seem a corner on the whole round earth where the 26-year-old Californian is not known, at least per what has been depicted. As far as boxing goes, with over twelve million followers on Instagram and a million plus on X, Garcia rules social media. Whether his renown will compound to such an extent? It must be beyond the imagination of many.
The icing on the cake could be the comparison with peers including Gervonta Davis, Terence Crawford, and of course Devin Haney. It didn’t take much time before fans started sharing their thoughts on the young boxer’s worldwide fame. It might have surprised many how Garcia managed to pull off such a universal appeal despite receiving a suspension following one of modern boxing’s most infamous controversies.

Boxing Kingdom tweeted: “Updated Google Trends showing the most popular American fighter in 2024.” Starting from the west, barring a few exceptions such as Uruguay or Bolivia in South America, most countries could identify Ryan Garcia, it seems. Likewise in Europe, with a few exceptions, such as the countries around the Baltic Sea, the young boxer appears to have conquered the popularity chart.

Apparently, several countries in the Middle East and Africa exhibited a lack of familiarity with Garcia. However, moving further east, Russia, a few countries from Central Asia, and India seem to have demonstrated good knowledge about Garcia. Though China and Mongolia were notable outliers, countries like Australia and New Zealand also exhibited some awareness about ‘KingRy’.
So where did Terence Crawford and Gervonta Davis stand? From the map, it seems that ‘Bud’ Crawford has some diehard following in Central Asia. Then many in the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ appear to know ‘Tank Davis. But no mention of Devin Haney existed in the image until the fans decided to bring Haney in.
Not anywhere?
Quite a few weren’t surprised by the outcome. Let’s hear what a few of them said.
Taking the mock route, this fan theorized that perhaps the regions featured in white were designated for Devin Haney. They said, “The white part is Devin Haney obviously.” The next one went a bit further and warned Google to project accurate information lest Bill Haney gets riled. This fan said, “This can’t be right—where’s Devin Haney?! Google better be careful. Bill might sue them.”
Laughing out loud at Haney, the following fan pointed out that even in some of the well-known neighborhoods in the US, the former lightweight champion would go unrecognized. “Haney’s not even popular in his Vegas suburb🤣😂🤣😂,” the fan said.
For this die hard, the map was a proof of Ryan Garcia’s international prominence. “Like it or not, Ryan Garcia is one of the faces of boxing 🤷♂️,” they said. However, one follower sounded quite skeptical about the whole popularity portrayal. According to them, a majority of discussions around Garcia revolved around his controversies and personal issues.

His boxing skills and accomplishments were barely mentioned. This is what they said: “By most popular, you mean “most discussed.” This is 3% people in awe of Garcia’s skills, 10% people discussing his merit vs. fighters such as Tank & Loma, 14% discussing Garcia’s tattoos, 16% him cheating, 22% his romantic life, & 35% his general year of constant, public breakdowns.”
Understandably, many would have questions surrounding the map, especially regarding the criteria considered to confirm the results. Furthermore, using popularity as a measure comes with many filters, each differing from the others.

Fame aside, Ryan Garcia has to currently deal with a lawsuit where Devin Haney has reportedly sought damages for fraud, battery, and unjust enrichment. To his relief, a court of law dismissed his vandalism case. There are still six months to go before his suspension gets over. Fans will be eagerly watching for his next move.
