When Ryan Garcia stepped down from his January 28th tune-up fight, it definitely surprised his upcoming opponent Gervonta Davis. While Gervonta Davis confirmed a bout with Hector Luis Garcia on January 7th, 2023, Garcia promised a Mercito Gesta fight on January 23. However, now that Garcia rejected his January 23 fight, it led Davis to believe that the former was lazy.

Gervonta Davis spots the lazy Ryan Garcia before their fight
According to Gervonta Davis, the 24-year-old, caught with fame and money, is “being lazy” before the ‘Tank’ fight. In a recent interview, Davis opened up about how it happened to the majority of the athletes in boxing. Warning Garcia before it’s too late, Davis said, “I think Ryan’s being lazy, not taking a fight before our fight.”

“I don’t know. When he was coming up, he was in the gym and everything. And now he’s got some money and a little bit of fame. And he’s partying and stuff like that. It happens to a majority of us, but it’s for him to tighten up before it’s too late,” Davis concluded by saying. Davis, who is 4 years elder than Garcia and made his debut in 2013, feels Garcia’s sole focus should be boxing.

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has no faith in Ryan Garcia’s move for Davis fight
Other than Gervonta Davis, promoter Oscar De La Hoya has expressed his disapproval of Ryan Garcia dropping his “tune-up” fight. According to De La Hoya’s belief, skipping the tune-up fight against Gesta on 28th January was a “big mistake” that Garcia has now conceived. However, all ‘Golden Boy’ can do is hope for the best for Garcia’s career in boxing.
