WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis isn’t happy about how the boxing world has treated him thus far. The Baltimore native is slated to square off against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1st in Brooklyn, New York. His path to the upcoming fight has seen him become the face of boxing.
However, many criticize the 30-year-old for avoiding real competition to float on a river of mediocre opponents. His choice to fight Roach Jr., who is from a lower weight class, is the perfect example of why Gervonta Davis has critics out there discrediting his work. While he has fought some big names like Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, Isaac Cruz, and a couple more, there are other names Davis refuses to fight.
WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is one name that fans often bring up when discussing who Davis should fight. Even a rematch with Ryan Garcia where he is not drained because of a severe weight cut. Regardless of these holes in his legacy though, Davis feels he has already established a legacy on par with Floyd Mayweather.

“It’s so up and down in the sport… When I say up and down in the sport, it’s like a lot of people don’t know but it’s been three and four people in my weight class that [have] been undisputed and they held it for like only a couple months,” he told Lil Yachty on ‘A Safe Place Podcast.’
“I beat Ryan. Ryan beat Devin. Devin was undisputed. It’s up and down because some people discredit what I [have] done—my influence, my everything in the sport. Even coming from where I come from. I feel like I’m already up there with whoever like Floyd Mayweather, Sugar Ray Leonard, all them people.”
If Davis really means what he says, he would accept the fight His Excellency Turki Alalshikh wants to make.

Turki Alalshikh wants Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson
Turki Alalshikh has expressed interest in making a fight between WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson. Despite not always being on cordial terms with Davis, Alalshikh emphasized that personal opinions do not interfere with his professional decisions. “I don’t take anything as personal. I am professional. I don’t need to like you to talk with you,” Alalshikh told ESPN.

He acknowledged Davis’ talent but urged him to take on bigger challenges. “He is a great fighter, of course. No doubt about this. But we need to see him in big fights more and more,” he added. Davis is set to face Lamont Roach on March 1. Meanwhile, Stevenson fights Floyd Schofield on February 22. However, with Davis previously hinting at retirement at 30, fans wonder if this super-fight will happen.

That said, it appears Gervonta Davis wants everyone to bow before him but doesn’t want to work for that to happen. Since he has announced his retirement after 2025, it would be interesting to see who he fights after Roach. Do you think Gervonta Davis is mistreated by the boxing world?
