The relationship between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson was as solid as a heavyweight’s chin, but that seems to have gone down the drain. Why? What befell their brotherhood? Well, the thing is, ‘Sugar’ Stevenson seems to be tired of being a fan! As long as anyone can remember, the Newark native has been wanting an opportunity to fight Davis, and for the most part, he has been polite about it.
However, nothing has come close to that fight becoming a reality! So, earlier today, Stevenson saw his opportunity and wrote on X, “…I [have] been dying for the opportunity,” challenging Davis. However, Stevenson’s effort to start the conversation might have fallen short because Davis didn’t just throw shade at Stevenson; he launched a haymaker to silence Stevenson.

Seeing Stevenson’s audacity to openly challenge him, the Baltimore native shoved their old sparring session in Stevenson’s face (in a now deleted tweet), where Davis claimed he beat his undefeated junior. However, Stevenson is no novice; he quickly shared an old interview featuring him and Davis, where Davis can be heard praising Stevenson after a sparring session.
This seems to have been the final straw, as Davis showed the ultimate sign of disrespect by questioning the Newark native, “Who have you fought?” Feeling the sting of being discredited despite climbing the lightweight ladder, Stevenson tried his best to summarize his achievements in roughly thirty words.

Stevenson wrote, “[I am a three] division champ. Unified at 130. [I] held the ring magazine belt… [You] had the [one] belt [your] whole career, and [you are] pushing [thirty] my guy. [You are] not fooling me, [little] bra.” Despite condensing his entire career in a tweet, Davis didn’t find Stevenson a worthy opponent, as he brought up the old days.
Davis wrote in a now deleted tweet, “You [were] under my wing until you [started] calling my name, letting n***as around you hype you up… You even did an interview, saying I wouldn’t fight you when you [knew]… That’s when I knew you [were] a corn ball…” However, this isn’t the first time ‘Tank’ Davis has emptied his verbal gun on Shakur Stevenson.

Not long ago, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney started their banter as their fight on April 20 was officially announced. In the lead-up to the fight, Garcia became close to Floyd Mayweather and acquired the ultimate weapon against Haney. It was a certain sparring footage of Haney and Davis, where Davis had dominated and rocked Haney.

So, when Garcia shared the clip on X, Stevenson was quick to tweet back with a witty response. Stevenson wrote, “Never in my life have I taken a beating like that by any fighter, good lord.” However, in a now-deleted tweet, Davis decided to rope in Stevenson as well, as he responded to Stevenson’s tweet, saying, “You know what’s up too.”
Despite their friendly past, Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson seem to have fallen out of favor. However, does this X altercation mean a potential fight is on the horizon? Only time can tell! What do you think? Who would win if these two fought?
