Three-division champion Gervonta Davis and lightweight superstar Ryan Garcia seemed aligned for a potential scrap right after Garcia’s WBC Interim title win against Luke Campbell in January. ‘KingRy’ called out ‘Tank’ and claimed that he had his sole focus on the WBA 135 lbs champion.

The idea also grabbed attention, as the unbeaten boxers are two of the biggest names in the lightweight unit. Hence, the potential fight between them made complete sense, especially for the existing 135 lbs ride.
As it didn’t happen, ‘Tank’ seems to have moved on from his lightweight contemporary. He will meet Isaac Cruz on December 5 at Staples Center, whereas Garcia is still to have an official bout.
Referring to the whole scene, ‘Tank’ Davis recently said, “I really don’t know his (Ryan Garcia’s) situation, to be honest. I can’t even tell you like. We did try to make that fight. That’s all I know. We try to make that fight. That’s about it.”

“The only thing I primarily say about the situation, but then I take it back, is the mental health thing. I feel though if you really got mental health, then it’s okay. Because I am saying, but if you just claim mental health and it’s not really mental health, that’s f*** up.”
Gervonta Davis has been actively participating in title fights across multiple divisions. Following successful stints at 130 and 135, he recently grabbed the WBA 140 lbs title by outworking Mario Barrios, but Garcia seems steps behind.

How far is Ryan Garcia from Gervonta Davis?
Unlike Davis, Ryan Garcia doesn’t have any world title win under his name. Although social media fame has turned him into a superstar, KingRy’s in-ring legacy is still far from the other champions; especially the three-weight champion in ‘Tank’. Hence, Ryan Garcia is still way behind Gervonta Davis.
Per the P4P king Canelo Alvarez, Garcia has a lot of talent. However, he needs to remain active and secure more wins to make full use of and justify that talent. It remains to be seen if he pays heed to these words when he makes his return from injury.
