Gervonta Davis has been going through a rough patch recently. The WBA lightweight champion initially shocked fans by announcing his retirement from boxing, citing his growing discontent with the sport. Adding to the confusion, he later announced the cancellation of his highly anticipated fight against WBA featherweight champion Lamont Roach.
However, the status of the fight remains somewhat unclear. In the meantime, YouTuber Show Bizz The Adult has weighed in, offering his take on the situation with the Baltimore native. According to him, Davis might simply be throwing a temper tantrum because things aren’t going his way.
Show Bizz even compared Davis’s behavior to boxing legends Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez. “Gervonta Davis, I said that he may be having a temper tantrum and it may be rightful,” Show Bizz said. “I think ‘Tank’ is at a crossroads. A lot of fighters have gotten there. Roy Jones got there. Floyd Mayweather got there. Canelo Alvarez with Golden Boy.”

Reminding his fans Davis is not the first boxer to have considered retirement to leverage his status as the best to make more money, Show Bizz claimed that the quality of Davis’ opponents solves all his problems.

“Let’s say he was fighting Teofimo Lopez next. I think a lot of these issues wouldn’t be there. I think the money would be there. I think the fan base would be excited. I think the tickets will already be sold out,” Show Bizz said.
Meanwhile, more details about what’s happening to the Davis-Roach fight have come to light.

Despite speculation fueled by Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ cryptic Instagram post declaring, “the fight is f**king cancel,” Lamont Roach Sr. remains confident that the highly anticipated matchup with his son, Lamont Roach Jr., is still on. “We haven’t heard anything. As far as I am concerned, the fight is still on,” Roach Sr. told Boxing Scene, who also trains the 29-year-old junior lightweight champion.
The fight, originally set for December 14 in Houston, was rescheduled to March 1 in Brooklyn, New York. Roach Jr. has been preparing for his second title defense after securing his belt against Hector Luis Garcia in 2023 and stopping Feargal McCrory earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Davis has been relatively inactive, with only one fight in 2024—a decisive win over Frank Martin. For now, Roach Sr. asserts, “Nothing has changed on our end.”
That said, it’s hard to determine whether Gervonta Davis is genuinely planning to retire after 2025 or simply using the announcement as a strategic move to gain leverage. Only time will reveal what lies ahead for the Baltimore native. What’s your take?
