Today, a potential fight between Gervonta Davis and Teofimo Lopez can move one step closer to fruition. However, the duo has already locked horns in the past back when they weren’t superstars. Having embraced boxing at an early age, Lopez and Davis became professionals pretty quickly.
Meanwhile, they were also fortunate to taste each other’s prowess. Lopez and Davis have reportedly sparred several times at the gym. And although we don’t have credible footage to see who was the better man, ‘Tank’ Davis has claimed that he was better.
Ahead of Teofimo Lopez’s title defense against George Kambosos Jr, Gervonta Davis sat down with Fight Hub TV, recalled the sparring sessions, and dismissed Lopez’s chances against him.

Gervonta Davis said, “I was playing with him. I was playing with a kid.”
“Back then, I was, I think I even sparred somebody else before that. I was just working with him.”
Gervonta Davis is already a three-division world champion with a record of 26-0 under his name. On the contrary, Lopez Jr. is 16-0 and is currently the unified lightweight world champion. It’s clear that both men have seen legitimate success in their respective rides. But unless they collide in-ring at the pro stage, the questions regarding their supremacy will remain intact.
Well, both men have their respective fights on board. Following Lopez vs Kambosos Jr, Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA belt against Isaac Cruz in December. If both men win their respective fights, we can expect a potential unification ahead.

How far do we stand from seeing Gervonta Davis vs Teofimo Lopez?
Although the lightweight division is blooming with undefeated world champions, unification talks remain in the background. WBC champion Devin Haney, WBA champion Gervonta Davis and unified titlist Teofimo Lopez are all close to facing each other in the future.
As of now, Lopez and Davis appear to be on a collision course, and should things work out, fans can see them agree to a fight in early 2022. That is, if Lopez doesn’t move up to 140 and if Davis is allowed to fight someone, not from Mayweather promotions.
