WBA regular lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has the potential to become one of the all-time greats. However, he hasn’t seemingly studied one of the best ever to do it, Muhammad Ali. The former heavyweight champion has been part of some of the greatest fights in the sport but ‘Tank’ has apparently not watched any of Ali’s classics.

Despite that Davis thinks the impact made by Ali on the sport was what mattered more than his in-ring accomplishments.
Gervonta Davis reveals he hasn’t watched any of Ali’s fights
In a recent interview with FightHype, Davis was asked to name his favorite Ali fight. However ‘Tank’ would reveal that he has not watched any of his fights but respected his achievements outside the ring.
“I ain’t gonna lie, I mess with Muhammad Ali as a person than a fighter. I never really watched none of the Muhammad Ali fights, but I like what he stood for, like for the people.” he said

The 2-division champ was very honest in his take on the heavyweight legend. However, a part of boxing is to study and analyze past boxers and learn from them. In addition, Ali’s skills in the ring were second to none and were only shadowed by his achievements outside the sport, displayed perfectly by Davis’ comments.
Davis praises Ali and past boxers for their toughness
Later in the interview, Davis was told to watch Ali vs George Foreman fight, which he claimed he would. Moreover, ‘Tank’ would also praise the past fighters for their grit and toughness.
“Ali vs Foreman, definitely. I ain’t gonna lie, back in the day fighters, they were tougher than today’s fighters. Today’s fighters, they old now.” said Davis

The comparison of athletes of past and present has always been a part of sports. While some argue that the fighters of the present are better athletes and more evolved than their predecessors. Others claim that the fighters of the past were more mentally tough and had more determination. ‘

Tank’ certainly thinks of the latter to be true.
