WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis is about to square off against Lamont Roach Jr. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The Baltimore native is expected to make quick work of Roach, who Davis has already defeated twice in the amateurs. However, things became even more interesting when Davis hopped on social media recently.

A day before the fight, ‘Tank’ took to X with a bold promise to his loyal fans, teasing a potential call-out after his potential win over Roach. Critics had been vocal about Davis’ choice of opponent, questioning why he opted to face Roach—a fighter from a lower weight class—rather than take on top contenders in his own division, particularly Shakur Stevenson. However, before Davis settled on facing Roach, he was in talks with Vasyl Lomachenko, but the latter decided to take time off from the sport. As a result, the fight negotiations went to the gutters.

Since then, others like the newly-crowned WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis have also thrown their names in the hat to potentially fight Tank. However, it’s unclear whether Davis is interested in any of them. Being the ‘face of boxing,’ Davis believes he doesn’t have to take the toughest opponents to make money, which seems to have been his strategy since defeating Ryan Garcia in 2023. Regardless, Davis has promised a massive announcement after his fight against Roach.

“Tune in tomorrow, call out at the end of the fight 👀,” Davis wrote on X. It’s also worth noting that some rumors suggested that Davis is still in talks with Vasyl Lomachenko for a fight, even though talks between them have previously fallen apart. Fans will have to wait for Davis himself to speak further on the matter.

But the question is, can Lamont Roach Jr. spoil Davis’ future plans?

Teddy Atlas predicts Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr.

Legendary trainer and analyst Teddy Atlas weighed in on tonight’s bout between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr., praising Davis as a complete fighter. While acknowledging Roach Jr.’s talent, Atlas believes his best chance is to box from the outside against Davis’ relentless pressure. “He’s better served to box on the outside with the always dangerous Tank,” Atlas noted.

It appears Gervonta Davis should be able to secure an easy win tonight. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see what exactly ‘Tank’ will announce after the fight. Any guesses?
