“(Expletive) celebrating failure… lol, yo, congrats on getting ya a** beat.” This is how Gervonta Davis reacted back in September last year when a clip of Edgar Berlanga celebrating his impressive fight with Canelo Alvarez went viral. In the clip, Berlanga could be seen standing atop a moving vehicle, blasting loud music, while a large group of Puerto Rican fans followed him on bikes closely behind. While Tank had a good laugh that day, with all due respect, one should never forget that every dog has its day, and last night, it was Edgar Berlanaga’s.
On March 1, tables turned completely when Tank had a disastrous outing against Lamont Roach Jr. at a sold-out Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The fight not only went the full distance, but the majority decision draw left a blot on Gervonta Davis’ perfect record. Fortunately for him, the 30-year-old was able to walk out of Barclays Center without a loss on his record, while still retaining his WBA lightweight title despite the controversial nature of the fight’s decision. However, for Berlanga, this was the opportunity that the Brooklyn native had been desperately looking for.

Berlanga revels in Gervonta Davis dropping the ball
While Berlanga was not at the venue, he was watching the fight live from the comfort of his home. And it looks like he was thoroughly enjoying the fight as well as Davis’ inability to land one good shot on his elusive opponent, who displayed superior skills. As soon as the bout ended, he uploaded an Instagram story celebrating the inspiring performance of Lamont Roach Jr. while also laying an expletive-laden explosive rant on Gervonta Davis, who could be seen celebrating the end of his tough bout on the screen behind. “Shoutout to my f****ing brother @oneof1x 🤞❤️,” the caption on his clip read.

— Edgar Berlanga Jr (@EdgarBerlangaJr) March 2, 2025
Berlanga’s house had a proper celebration as everyone was cheering and clapping for Roach, including the former number one super-middleweight contender. “P**sy a** n**ga. You s**t the bed. We from New York, f**k you talking about me,” shouted Berlanga, mocking Gervonta Davis. The jabs didn’t stop there as The Chosen One took to his ‘X’ and wrote, “Stop jacking New York too b***h a** n***a @Gervontaa.” It seems Edgar Berlanaga is thoroughly enjoying the blot on Gervonta Davis’ record.
While Edgar Berlanga revels in throwing shade at Tank, that bravado could easily backfire, especially with the added pressure he’s piled on himself for his next fight.

Edgar Berlanga’s retirement challenge
A few days ago, the New York resident caused a stir on social media by speaking about retiring from the sport. Berlanga is scheduled to make his return after almost six months of inactivity. He last fought against Canelo Alvarez in September and, since then, has been under the firing line of fans.
Desperate to assert his dominance in the super middleweight division once again, the 27-year-old vowed to finish his next fight against undefeated Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz with a knockout. If not, he is ready to hang up the gloves for good. “IF I DON’T KNOCK HIM OUT I WILL QUIT BOXING AND WORK IN WALMART,” Berlanga wrote on X.
The Brooklyn native rose to prominence because of his 16-fight knockout streak after turning professional. However, since then, he has fought 7 times and has only been able to finish one fight via knockout. So, things are not looking as promising as the 27-year-old thinks. But hey, in boxing, you never know.
