What happens when legends of today collide with legends of the past? Practically, this is impossible, but that hasn’t stopped fans from drumming up scenarios—Whether it’s the great Muhammad Ali vs. Mike Tyson or Manny Pacquiao vs. Julio Cesar Chavez. In a more modern dream scenario, Gervonta Davis has been pitted against a legend of the sport.

So, you must be wondering—who is ‘Tank’ Davis fighting in this fantasy boxing match? Well, it’s none other than two-time world champion from Venezuela, Edwin Valero. In a social media post, the World Boxing Association asked boxing fans about their predictions for a fight between the duo. And boy, have they answered.

How formidable was Edwin Valero?

Earlier today, the sanctioning body sparked a lively debate on Instagram, posting the question, “Let’s discuss. Who would win?” For context, Edwin ‘El Inca Dinamita’ Valero retired undefeated in 2010 after a stunning 9th-round stoppage victory over Antonio DeMarco.

In just eight years, Valero amassed an incredible 27-0 professional record, claiming two world titles along the way: the WBA super featherweight championship (2006–2008) and the WBC lightweight championship (2009–2010).

What truly set Valero apart, though, was his unparalleled knockout power. Let this sink in—he stopped every single opponent he faced. That’s right, 27 fights, 27 knockouts. A feat like this made Valero a terrifying presence in the ring and a formidable opponent for anyone, including Gervonta Davis.

Now, Gervonta Davis is undoubtedly one of boxing’s brightest stars, often hailed as the face of the sport. But the real question is, could he overcome a prime Valero? Judging by the reactions from fans, many seem to believe Davis wouldn’t stand a chance.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Gervonta Davis handle Edwin Valero's legendary knockout power, or is it a mismatch?

Fan claims Gervonta Davis would never fight Valero

Despite Davis’ pristine record and a reputation as a knockout artist, who hits like his nickname ‘Tank,’ the Baltimore native has failed to convince people he is an all-time great. One user suggested Valero could do whatever he pleased and still defeat Davis with ease. “Valero by whatever he wants and casuals can cry me a river,” the user commented. Valero was known for his aggressive boxing style, and Davis has shown he can handle aggressive boxers. Davis put down an aggressive Ryan Garcia with a body shot from hell. But it’s difficult to say whether Valero would fall victim to the same.

Someone else believed Valero had that killer instinct, which would get him the win. “Edwin wins. He has that killer instinct,” the user wrote. However, one could argue, even Valero’s resume wasn’t as great as it could have been.

Meanwhile, this user took digs at Davis for his recent decision to fight Lamont Roach. “Tank would never fight a top guy in his own division. Keep dreaming,” the user commented. Davis has been accused of cherry-picking his opponents to avoid risking his undefeated record. The Roach fight has especially been criticized because Roach is climbing one weight class to fight Davis.

Another user felt Gervonta Davis would never stand a chance against Valero. “This ain’t even a debate Edwin wins 10/10 fights against tank,” the user claimed. However, if such a matchup were possible, Davis would pose a formidable challenge, thanks to his exceptional ring generalship and his devastating one-punch knockout power.

While everyone else was dunking on ‘Tank’ Davis, he had one supporter for his cause. “Edwin was him fr but I see gervonta catching him in the later rounds,” the user wrote. The truth is, fans can speculate all day long, but the beauty of the sport of boxing is that no one knows how a fight will go until both men start throwing punches.

That said, it goes without saying that the majority of fans feel Edwin Valero would easily defeat Gervonta Davis. While that theory cannot be put to the test, why don’t you join the conversation by sharing your prediction for the fight? Who do you think will win?
