Many question Gervonta Davis’ resume, yet he has fought some of the toughest opponents in his 12-year-long professional career. However, one fight that stands apart from the rest is the Ryan Garcia bout. According to reports, the event generated approximately 1.2 million pay-per-view buys in the US alone.

The bout attracted 20,842 to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, generating an estimated $22.8 million in ticket sales. Needless to say, this was the biggest fight of Davis’ career thus far, and one that he won dominantly. Even though Garcia was leading on points, Davis dropped Garcia in rounds two and seven, forcing Garcia to take a knee. Despite his dominant win, over a year later, Davis was forced to swallow a tough pill, acknowledging Garcia’s ability. What is it all about?

Well, Davis is about to get in the ring with WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. this weekend in Brooklyn. As part of the pre-fight promotional ritual, he appeared in an interview with PPV[dot]com. During this interview, the undefeated Baltimore native was pressed about the toughest opponent of his career. Despite downplaying Garcia’s abilities in the past, Davis was forced to put Garcia in the number one spot, followed by Isaac Cruz, Frank Martin, Hector Luis Garcia, and Rolly Romero.

Interestingly enough, Garcia is slated to fight Rolly Romero, who is ranked last on Davis’ list, in May as his comeback fight. Garcia was forced to serve a year-long suspension after testing positive for Ostarine last year in April during his fight against Devin Haney. The pair is expected to have their rematch later this year.

Even a rematch between Garcia and Davis has sparked conversations, but it’s not even close to happening anytime soon. Regardless, before Davis hopes for another fight, Lamont Roach has issued a warning.

Lamont Roach promises to send Gervonta Davis into early retirement

Lamont Roach is determined to end Gervonta Davis’ career earlier than expected when they clash on March 1 at the Barclays Center. With Davis planning to retire by the end of the year, Roach sees this as the perfect opportunity to play spoiler. “I worked my a** off,” Roach told TMZ Sports. “If he’s on his way out, why not kick his a** out?!” Despite being a massive underdog, the 25-1 super featherweight is unfazed by the odds and relishes the chance to prove doubters wrong.

“I like to prove people wrong and I damn sure like to prove myself right,” he said. “Right now, they really got me f’d up. So, you know, I got it on the agenda to upset a lot of people.” If victorious, Roach plans to chase more championship fights at 130 or 135 lbs. “I wanna prove that I’m the best.”

That said, it appears even though Gervonta Davis likes to downplay Ryan Garcia’s abilities, he was cornered into giving Garcia his credit. However, do you agree with Davis’ assessment? Or do you think there’s someone tougher Davis forgot?
