While Terence Crawford was trying to fight Canelo Alvarez over the past year, people seem to have forgotten his rivalry with the ‘Face of Boxing’—Gervonta Davis. However, that dying tension between the two legendary fighters seems to be coming back to the limelight. If you have been following Davis and Crawford’s saga for the past few years, you would know this.
Some time ago, there were some talks about Gervonta Davis climbing up a weight class to fight Crawford. However, that never ended up happening, even though Crawford had claimed Davis wouldn’t be able to do much against him in a higher weight class. Then there was the time when ‘Tank’ backed Errol Spence Jr. to beat Crawford in 2023.
Crawford, of course, ended up embarrassing Spence during their fight to secure 9th round knockout win. Regardless, the rivalry between ‘Tank’ and ‘Bud’ seems to have been revitalized at the beginning of 2025. Following a social media exchange in January, which saw Davis insult Crawford’s wife, the pair are butting heads again after Crawford shared his thoughts about Davis in a recent interview.

Speaking to Naji on the Cigar Talk podcast, Crawford claimed Gervonta Davis would never even dream about coming up to 154 pounds or 147 pounds for a fight, unless “He gets to pick his opponent.” When Naji brought up their recent social media battle, Crawford stated, “I just really don’t like that dude… I don’t like [anything] about him.”

“I just feel like he’s just one of these little arrogant little dudes that’s using what he got to shield him. He got a lot of security guards around him and, you know, I mean, he’s in the limelight and stuff like that. But in certain situations, he wouldn’t be acting like that,” Crawford added. However, Crawford highlighted that he likes and respects Davis as a boxer.
“He’s a damn good fighter… I respect him as a fighter… He definitely [has] skills. He got power. He [has] a tremendous boxing ability, but his core personality and his ways [I don’t like that],” Crawford concluded. This seems to have ticked off Gervonta Davis, who quickly took to X, making derogatory comments about Crawford as well as Naji.
“F**k the guy that interviewed that raccoon and f**k the raccoon! And I will be in NYC in 2 weeks no security how about that. Link up,” Davis wrote in a now-deleted tweet. Seeing this, while Crawford has not commented on the matter yet, Naji has stated X. “When you one of the faces of boxing fighters ppl gon talk about you, comes with the territory,” he wrote.

“Don’t know why he be so mad at me I only ask fair questions.” That said, what exactly started Crawford and Davis’ back-and-forth in January?
Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford engage in verbal battle over money
Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford clashed on social media in a heated debate over money and legacy. The exchange began when Davis expressed frustration over not being invited to the recent Ring Magazine awards in London. Crawford, who attended the event and discussed a potential fight with Canelo Alvarez, took notice. “I seen somebody mad that they weren’t invited to the Ring Magazine Gala,” Crawford posted on X. Davis fired back, boasting about his earnings, “But I still earn way more than you.” He then added, “You all think he’s chasing greatness. He’s not, that’s what he has to do to make decent money.”

Crawford countered with a sharp response: “First thing a dumb rich person say to another rich person is I got more money than you! I bet you I own more investments than you and I don’t owe a dollar in taxes.” He also questioned Davis’ fight choices, saying, “Who you been fighting? That’s why you talking about fighting Ryan [Garcia] again.”

Despite their verbal jabs, a fight between them is unrealistic because of weight differences, with Crawford potentially moving to 168lbs and Davis staying near 140lbs.
It appears just as Terence Crawford got his wish to fight Canelo Alvarez granted by the Saudis, Gervonta Davis has come out of the woodworks to revitalize their old rivalry. While this may never turn into an actual fight, it sure makes for great free entertainment for fans. What are your thoughts on the situation?
