Gervonta Davis can’t seem to take all the questions raised after his fight against Lamont Roach Jr. last Saturday night in New York. The fight saw Davis’ perfect record get tarnished, as ‘The Reaper’ pushed the Baltimore native to the brink of defeat. While Davis previously claimed a rematch might not happen immediately, now, he seems to have changed his mind.
After their fight came to a majority decision draw, Davis revealed the fate of a rematch during the post-fight press conference. “I am not sure, bro. Definitely not sure… Hopefully, we can get it before, um, it probably won’t be this year,” Davis told a flock of reporters gathered in the arena. However, since then, an uproar has begun on social media.
People are questioning whether Davis is a good fighter, highlighting his padded career and carefully chosen opponents. Frustrated and ready to prove everyone wrong, Davis hopped on X to retaliate. “Your b**ch a** just happy you didn’t get knocked out..your dad was jumping up and down in the corner when y’all made it to the 12 rd. Foh,” Davis wrote.

Meanwhile, the NYSAC seems to have issued a statement on the incident that took place during the fight.
NYSAC to look into the no-knockdown call during Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight
The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) is reviewing the controversial non-call in the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr. fight on Saturday. The incident occurred in the ninth round when Davis took a knee and headed to his corner. Referee Steve Willis began a 10-count but allowed Davis to continue without penalty after wiping his eye with a towel.

A knockdown ruling would have resulted in a point deduction for Davis, potentially changing the majority draw outcome. The NYSAC cited a “technical issue” that prevented an immediate replay review, stating, “Therefore, the referee’s in-ring decision was relied upon and the fight continued.”

With judges scoring the fight 115-113 (Davis), 114-114, and 114-114, this moment could have swung the fight in Roach’s favor. The NYSAC emphasized its commitment to “preserving the integrity of combative sports” and preventing future technical failures in replay reviews.
That being said, it appears Gervonta Davis is forced to give Lamont Roach Jr. an immediate rematch, which, without a doubt, Roach deserves. What are your thoughts on Davis’ sudden turnaround?
