Gervonta Davis has been confusing his fans for the past few months with unexpected statements regarding his career and fights. On top of his retirement announcement, on Christmas Eve he sent the combat world into disarray, claiming that his upcoming fight with Lamont Roach, which has been in the making for months and fans have been desperately waiting for, is canceled. However, there was neither an explanation nor any backup statement, forcing the fans to believe it was another one of Tank’s meltdowns.
Thankfully, Roach and his father released statements claiming the fight was still very much on schedule. Keeping the debacle aside, both Roach and Davis are now preparing for their March 1, 2025 clash at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. However, we never got to listen to the Washington native’s side and why the rumor began.

During the Q&A session on his YouTube channel, ‘The Reaper’ was asked by a fan, “Why did people say the fight was canceled or you pulled out?” The WBA super featherweight champion appreciated the question. He revealed that Gervonta Davis is like a wild card and no one knows what he will do next. However, he has learned to deal with it and does not let Tank’s wild nature affect him.
“Y’all know what y’all dealing with man. Y’all dealing with a wild card, you know what I’m saying. Just be doing sh*t. He be lunching. That s**t ain’t affect me,” claimed Roach. According to Roach, Gervonta Davis is erratic and what he will do is anyone’s guess. The Washington native explained, “The fight was never canceled just to let y’all know. The fight was never off, whatever the case may be. I already knew that but just so you know he scared ya’ll a little bit,” claiming that it was just one of Gervonta Davis’ usual meltdowns.
The 25-1 boxer further revealed that even he himself had no idea why the Baltimore native uploaded that story. Even he was in the dark just like all the fans. “I know but that s**t nothing to do with me. So I don’t know why people was saying I pulled out. I was in the gym,” preparing for his career’s biggest fight.
Despite all the rumors and delays, the fight is back on track and will headline PBC’s second event of 2025. According to the trend, the fight is bound to break gate records and will be another sell-out in Tank’s resume.

Gervonta Davis: A guaranteed sell-out
Last month, ES News shared a video on their YouTube channel revealing that the March 1 fight might break several gate records. For the uninformed, gate records refer to the revenue generated from ticket sales for a live event at the venue. This claim was not an educated guess, but rather an observation.
Ray Jackson on ‘X’ mentioned that 10,000 seats at Barclays Center were already sold out in December. For context, the arena has a capacity of 19,000. Gervonta Davis has recorded 12 sellouts in a row and his bout against Lamont Roach might be his 13th.

Despite all the drama surrounding the March 1 event, organizers have increased the ticket price, which might break record gate sales for Barclays. This is once again a testament to Gervonta Davis’ pull and in the bigger picture, his meltdown does not matter. Fans are happy to see him back in action and they will fill in the arenas. However, Lamont Roach has raised questions on his erratic behavior and there must be a limit to how much he can do without any repercussions.
