The Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight keeps taking hits. In the meantime, the biggest ‘Tank’ hater and former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney’s father, Bill Haney, has criticized Davis for facing the WBA super featherweight champion. The bout was originally supposed to go down on December 14 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
However, reports last month revealed the fight was postponed, with Davis coming out on social media to claim the fight will happen in January. In the latest update, Boxing Scene has reported that the fight has been pushed back one more time to March 1. The update also suggested that the originally planned venue, Toyota Center in Houston, won’t be the location. Why?
Well, because the Houston Rockets play the Sacramento Kings that night. Davis’ promoter Leonard Ellerbe has claimed the location and exact date for the fight will be revealed very soon. As Davis faces multiple delays, Bill Haney appeared in an interview with Vlad TV on YouTube, where he spoke about Davis’ fight against Roach.

Initially, Haney feigned ignorance about Roach when the host mentioned their upcoming bout. “When do they fight? I haven’t heard too much about that. Have you heard a lot about that fight? I haven’t heard…,” he stated, mocking the matchup. “I almost forgot that they were even fighting.”
As for Haney Sr.’s prediction for the bout, if it was not obvious, he said, “I don’t think that Lamont has what it takes to beat ‘Tank,’ but I wish him well.” Later in the interview, the host brought up the Frank Martin fight, which Davis won via an 8th-round knockout in Las Vegas. Haney Sr. again feigned ignorance about who Martin was, insinuating that Davis only fights nobodies, adding, “Geez man, when is he going to fight somebody?”
This prompted the host to bring up the rumors about Davis fighting Shakur Stevenson, which were spreading on social media a while back, asking Haney Sr. whether that fight would ever happen. “No,” Bill said immediately, sure of his response. When asked for a reason, Haney asked, “Have they announced? Have you heard ‘Tank’ [say] that he was going to fight?”
To throw a final jab at Davis, Haney concluded, “[Stevenson vs. Davis will] be a good fight. I give it 50/50. I think ‘Tank’ is avoiding real boxers. He’s avoiding them for a reason.” Regardless of how Haney Sr. feels about the Davis vs. Roach bout, Roach seems extremely confident.
Lamont Roach is expecting a fight-of-the-year performance against Gervonta Davis
Despite having to climb weight classes, Lamont Roach feels he will “bully,” “surprise,” and “shock” a lot of people with his performance when the fight does happen. “I anticipate it to be Fight of the Year. For all those who don’t know, I can bully,” Roach told TMZ Sports in an interview a couple of weeks ago.

“When I’m in there I’m in my zone. I’m in my jam. I’m going to surprise a lot of people and shock a lot of people when I win.” Davis has ended his last four fights through his knockouts, but in the upcoming fight, Roach claims he will be the one looking down on Davis on fight night. “I’ll be training to make sure I can knock him out in any round,” he said.
That being said, Bill Haney clearly is not a big fan of the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach bout. However, he clearly has his biases, but what about you? Do you think the fight is the best Davis could have done? Should Davis have fought Stevenson?
