The major bout between Teofimo Lopez, popularly known as ‘The Takeover,’ and George Kambosos Jr, dubbed as ‘Ferocious,’ was a fascinating clash between the two boxers. The latter was declared a unified lightweight champion at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater on November 27, 2021.

After upsetting the much favored Teofimo Lopez, Australia’s 28-year-old, Kambosos Jr emerged as the winner. Apart from Kambosos emerging victorious, The Takeover had to go through another grueling ordeal.

Doctors say Teofimo Lopez could have died

Doctors said that Teofimo Lopez is “lucky he’s not dead.” Dr.Linda Dahl stated, “He could have died, for sure. How he breathed, I can’t even explain to you. It’s like somebody tied a 300-pound set of weights around his chest…like his neck and chest were in a vase.” 

George Kambosos Jr spilled the beans on what had transpired after the finish of the contest in an interview with Nick Nunan of FightHype. After a grueling 12-round fight, George told Lopez in the ring, “You’re delusional brother”.

In the video, he also stated, “Get yourself back in the gym. You are a talented kid and I’m not gonna disrespect you.” Furthermore, he also added denoting Lopez, “You need to zone in and move away from certain people. That’s a thing of the past. I hope he does great with whatever he does in the future.”

George Kambosos Jr offering a rematch

George Kambosos Jr seems willing to fight Lopez again in a rematch. “You wanna fight again? Let’s fight again. Come see me in my hometown now. I’m always open to big fights. We’ll see at 135, we’ll do it at 140, no problem. Weight is no issue for me. At the end of the day, but I said this can go two ways for him, you either bounce back like a champion and come back which we’ll have to wait and see or you go down a bad road which I think could be the case now,” iterated Kambosos Jr.

‘Ferocious’ had something to add in the end. He said, “But anyway, he’ll probably hear this and maybe it motivates him to focus and get back in the gym, but it is what it is.

The Australian underdog has begun training for his undisputed bout with WBC lightweight champion, Devin Haney, which will take place on June 5 in Melbourne, Australia. 

With his new title as the unified lightweight champion, ‘Ferocious’ certainly has some new fans added to his list.
