Middleweight great, Gennady Golovkin, was all set to take on his first and only fight of 2021 against Ryota Murata on December 29. This bout was set to go on floors in Japan. Unfortunately, due to the rise in Covid-19 cases in some parts of the world, many countries have closed their doors. This has poured cold water on the Murata vs Golovkin fight.

Recently, ‘GGG’, who was in a chat with Sun Sports, spoke about his boxing career and retirement plans.

Golovkin said, ”All my decisions will be regarded as the right decision by me, whether I want to continue and take part in a fight.”

“I will regard that as the right decision, if I want to conclude my career, that will also be the right decision.”

“I am comfortable right now with how my career is progressing and what’s happening and I’m sure whatever I do, will be right for me.”

Golovkin hasn’t remained quite active with his stint in the past year. In 2020, too, he fought just once, wherein he defended his IBF and IBO middleweight titles. Given his long stints away from the ring, he may have developed some ring rust.
