Undisputed champion at super middleweight, Canelo Alvarez is preparing to defend his titles against Gennady Golovkin for a third time. Boxing fans have been waiting in anticipation for what could possibly be one of the biggest showdowns of the year. As such, recently, Golovkin shared his thoughts on Alvarez’s defeat against Dmitry Bivol to potentially torment Alvarez before their big fight.

Golovkin was talking at the ‘DAZN Boxing Show‘ hosted by Akin ‘Ak’ Reyes and Kamal Barak Bess. In conversation, Golovkin shared his thoughts on Bivol’s victory against Alvarez. He said, “Everything go back, you know. Like go back to reality. Canelo he is an amazing fighter, yeah 100%. Bivol, wow surprising. He’s so good, so good. For this day, he’s so good. I’m more smile you know, because right now like everything go back.”

However, the hosts asked him if Alvarez was made to seem invincible prior to the fight. But in losing, he was pushed back into reality. Golovkin agreed by emphasizing that one can never know too much about boxing.

The Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez showdown

Gennady Golovkin was last seen in the ring on April 9, 2022. He faced Ryota Murata at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, winning the bout by a 9th-round technical knockout. Moreover, in victory, he retained his IBF and IBO middleweight titles and also won the WBA (Super) middleweight title.

Notably, he had previously faced Alvarez twice, with the first bout ending in a draw and him losing the second bout by decision. In May 2022, Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn announced the 3rd Golovkin vs Alvarez bout will take place on September 17, 2022.

Alvarez will defend his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles against Golovkin in the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada.
