On May 6, the undisputed Super Middleweight champion ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, would defend his title from the mandatory challenger John Ryder. Finally, after eleven and a half years, Alvarez would fight in his home country. Besides the Alvarez-Ryder fight, the event hosts ten other contests as part of its co-main and undercard events. One of the undercard fights will take place for the WBA Inter-Continental Super Lightweight belt between Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela and Steve Spark.
‘Canelo’ Alvarez was on a small break for the third bout against old rival Gennady Golovkin on September 17. This would be his second title defense since he became the undisputed Super Middleweight champion after defeating Caleb Plant on November 6, 2021. Undoubtedly, the outstanding boxer is a clear favorite to win, especially when fighting in front of his home crowd.

It remains to be seen whether Spark, who appears to have a penchant for early stoppages, can bring about an upset. On the other hand, the Australian gained acclaim in 2021 for taking a fight against future champion Tim Tszyu. While he was defeated then, fans and critics were visibly impressed by his willingness to move two weight classes to challenge a top-notch fighter like Tszyu.
