The Sebastian Fundora vs. Errol Spence Jr. bout has been in the works for nearly a year, but there have been no official announcements or a solid date to confirm it yet. Now, more bad news has surfaced on social media, leaving fans frustrated and fuming over the endless delays surrounding the potential title fight.

After Fundora created an upset back in March last year by defeating Tim Tszyu, Spence challenged the WBC and WBO super welterweight champion. In May, a report from ESPN suggested that Fundora and Spence had reached a deal for the title fight in Dallas in October of last year. However, October came and went—the fight didn’t happen!

The fight was being talked about for Premier Boxing Champions’ pay-per-view slots on Amazon’s Prime Video. But it appears that no one really has any idea when the pair may square off against each other. Meanwhile, Spence hasn’t fought since his loss to Terence Crawford in July 2023.

Likewise, Fundora hasn’t defended his title since acquiring it from Tszyu in March last year. Boxing Insider Rick Glaser highlighted that this fight has hit another road back today on X. “Hearing from very reliable sources that the several time delayed Sebastian Fundora-Errol Spence fight possibility is in even further disarray for several reasons,” he wrote.

“It’ll be almost a miracle status if this fight ever happens. And PBC’s Fundora hasn’t fought in what will be a year in March, has never defended his world titles,” he added. This was enough for fans to be enraged, as they await Spence’s much-anticipated return to the ring.

PBC blamed for Fundora vs. Spence debacle

Speculation about Spence’s potential retirement has only heightened fans’ anticipation for his next fight. However, with no concrete action from PBC to make the fight happen, one frustrated fan criticized the promotion for delaying the fight. “Leave it to PBC to hold up the hottest division in boxing!🤦‍♂️,” the user commented. However, there’s no solid evidence suggesting PBC is the one holding the fight hostage. Fundora’s promoter Sampson Lewkowicz has previously pushed for a fight against Crawford instead.

Another user brought up a rumored injury Spence had suffered recently. “I thought I saw that Spence had an eye issue and wasn’t coming back. Detached retina? Is that accurate?” the user commented. However, that came from a parody account of talkSport editor Michael Benson, and Spence had clarified that the rumor was false.

Someone else frustrated with the endless delays asked Glaser about the reason. “What’s the hold-up, Rick? Spence has been posting photos of him being in shape. Is it financially related? Or is it another venue issue?” the user asked. As of the time of writing, a specific reason has not been provided for the latest delay.

The next user seems to think Spence is the reason behind the delay. “Fundora is wasting his career waiting for Spence. Right now he should be looking to make his second or third title defense and not still waiting for his first,” the user wrote. However, as things are, it looks like Fundora just wants the big fights to make the most of his last win.

Even this user had similar feelings, blaming Spence for the delay. “Fundora wants to fight. The delays are not his fault,” the user commented. If that were the case, Fundora’s team could have arranged a title defense by now against any other fighter.

That said, it appears fans may never get to see the potential fight between Sabastian Fundora and Errol Spence Jr. It’s difficult to say who or what is causing the delay, but fans are the ones who are suffering. Do you think the fight will ever get made?
