A few weeks ago Tyson Fury suffered his second consecutive career loss against Oleksandr Usyk. Fans started thinking about the next move for ‘The Gypsy King’ and where he would go now. Many fans thought that the Manchester native might bid farewell to the sport if no other fight presents itself.

Fans’ worst fears came true as Fury announced his retirement from the sport. But what about the blockbuster fight waiting for him against Anthony Joshua? Fans have been eagerly waiting for the British duo to clash for almost a decade now and with recent developments, the fight looked possible. However, Fury’s sudden announcement and promoter Frank Warren, recent admission, threw a massive wrench into those expectations.

In a conversation with IFL TV, Warren claimed that he still has no idea whether Tyson Fury will hang up his gloves or fight AJ next. “When I phoned him, I didn’t talk about fighting again. All I talked about was ‘How are you and how are you feeling?’ Obviously, it gets into boxing because that’s the business we are in, we had a brief discussion about it but nothing about the future,” stated Warren as he revealed his recent conversation with ‘The Gypsy King.’

The conversation then got into the potential fight against Anthony Joshua and whether Fury is considering it seriously. However, despite heavy rumors, Warren admitted, “There has been no negotiations. There’s nothing happening at the moment.” However, the Queensbury honcho knows that “it’s a fight that gets everybody’s juices going.” After all, “It’s a rivalry there for a decade,” stated Warren, referring to the importance of this clash, at least for the UK boxing fans.

While Warren showed his doubts regarding what Fury will do next, Anthony Joshua wants the fight. During the Ring Magazine awards in London, AJ issued a challenge to his Manchester rival, claiming that the fight needs to happen in 2025.

During the ceremony, the Watford native confirmed that he wants to face Tyson Fury next no matter what. He declared, “It’s a fight I want to see because I am a fan of boxing. When I am in the gym, everyone is asking me [about this fight],” referring to the traction this fight is gaining already.

AJ and Fury are two of the modern greats of heavyweight boxing and their clash is one of the highest anticipated matches. The duo has been involved in trash-talking for years, resulting in multiple failed fight negotiations. The duo was so close to clashing in 2021 before a court ruling forced Fury to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy. However, even AJ knows that they do not have much time now.

He added, “I ain’t got many years ahead of me. I want to leave the game with a bang and make an impact. Everyone is asking me the same question. It’s up to me to deliver, that’s why I’m saying it has to happen this year,” declaring the best opportunity to be now or never.

Despite all the reservations from Tyson Fury’s side, Joshua remains positive about the possibility of the fight. He exclaimed, “I think we can make this fight happen,” in a hopeful tone.

Both Warren and Joshua’s statements make it evident that even there is a massive interest in the potential clash. If the opportunity arrives, none of them will shy away from making this fight possible. The only thing that is stopping it from happening is Tyson Fury and his decision regarding his future. But as we know from history, Fury’s retirement announcement does not always stand. We have seen it times and time again. This time, every British boxing fan is hoping for it to be the same. Because this fight is box office and it needs to happen. Let us know your thoughts down below.
