The odds are against him! Literally! Davis is the -700 favorite while Martin is the +450 underdog. But Frank Martin hasn’t lost hope of defeating his lightweight rival Gervonta Davis in their upcoming June 15 bout at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. So much so that the Detroit, Michigan native has revealed what the scale of his win over ‘Tank’ would be like while addressing comparisons to Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas and The New York Giants vs. The New England Patriots.

Unbeaten ‘The Ghost’ Martin will look to establish himself among the elites by defeating and taking Davis’ WBA lightweight title, while Davis’ mission remains his massive comeback to the sport after a year-long layoff. While appearing in The Pivot Podcast, shared on YouTube today, the Indianapolis resident spoke his heart out about the possibilities of his potential win!

Speaking to Martin ahead of the fight a handful of days away, former NFL player Ryan Clark probed him about how big of an upset it would be if he defeated Davis while comparing his fight to Mike Tyson’s infamous bout against James Buster Douglas and the match between The New York Giants and The New England Patriots at Super Bowl XLII. Interestingly, defying the odds, Douglas defeated ‘Iron’ Mike at the Tokyo Dome, Japan in 1990 causing one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Similarly, the host compared Martin’s potential win to the New York Giants’ 2008 Super Bowl XLII upset win over the New England Patriots. The New England Patriots, boasting a perfect 16-0 regular season record, entered the game as heavy favorites by 12 points. Their opponent? The New York Giants, a wildcard team with a less impressive 10-6 record. Despite the odds, the Giants emerged victorious with a nail-biting 17-14 win. This unexpected outcome cemented Super Bowl XLII as a legendary game, showcasing the resilience of the underdog and the drama that can unfold on the biggest stage.

So, hearing such bold comparisons to his fight with Davis, Frank Martin said, “I feel like this [is] going to be one of [those] things… you got to think he [is] like the, in this era right now, he [is] like Floyd [Mayweather]. He’s not supposed to be beat[en]. So, I just feel like man when it happens, it’s going to send some shock waves. ”

Whether he can pull off an upset will only be revealed on June 15th, but the intrigue heightens as a past sparring session between them emerges as a significant subplot in the buildup to the fight.

The upcoming fight, in no way, would be Martin and Davis’ first date in the ring, as they have sparred in the Mayweather gym previously, which many say Davis won. Also, during their press conference previously, Davis had hammered home the same thing to show his dominance over Matin.

So, while appearing in an interview with Fight Hype yesterday, he didn’t want to speak about their sparring session when the reporter brought it up. Instead, he told the reporter, “That was just sparring. We’ve got a fight Saturday, and I’m gonna whoop his a**. The sparring don’t matter. That’s years ago. We got Saturday to show who’s who on Saturday night.”

With that said, Frank Martin looks extremely confident about his victory over Gervonta Davis in a few days, and why not, crazier things have happened in the sport. Who are you cheering for? Do you think Martin can win?
