Tyson Fury faced a lot of backlash after getting knocked down by Francis Ngannou. Many questioned his readiness to face Oleksandr Usyk since the Ukrainian boxer would definitely prove to be a tougher challenge than the former UFC champion. However, a former boxing champion believes it was more of a learning session for Fury than anything else.

During the fight, it was quite evident that ‘The Gypsy King’ wasn’t really taking ‘Predator’ seriously, and due to this, he found himself on the ground. Even though Fury won the fight via decision, fans gained a lot of respect for Ngannou for going toe-to-toe with the WBC titlist. But this fight contributed to the increased hype for the Usyk-Fury fight, as per the veteran, Roy Jones Jr.

Roy Jones Jr. unconvinced by Oleksandr Usyk’s explosive power

In his conversation with the former light middleweight champion, Shane Mosley, Roy Jones Jr. believes that the previous fight of Tyson Fury against Francis Ngannou was a wake-up call for the undefeated champion. “I think Tyson Fury understood from the fight that he can’t rest or can’t sleep on anybody,” Jones said. He suggested that Fury might have underestimated Usyk previously, but Ngannou’s win has instilled a new level of caution in the heavyweight champ. “I think now he’ll go back and train properly,” Jones stated, “I think he’s going to take Usyk a lot more serious than he would have taken Usyk before.

Jones acknowledged Usyk’s lack of knockout power but suggested that if Usyk can somehow develop more explosiveness, the fight could become a real nail-biter. The outcome, according to Jones, hinged on Usyk’s ability to surprise Fury with newfound explosiveness. “I don’t know exactly who’s going to win because I don’t know how much Usyk is gonna bring to the table,” admitted the former unified light heavyweight champion, “But if Tyson Fury is the normal Tyson Fury because of his hype and because of the fact that Usyk has not shown us explosive punches, Tyson Fury should win the fight.

However, Jones left the door open for an upset. “But if Usyk goes and figures how to be explosive like Francis, like how Ryan Garcia is with the explosiveness, then we going to have a good fight in our hands,” he said. “And he may get lucky and get him out, but we’ll see.” Like Roy Jones Jr. said, the Gypsy King is ready to rumble this time around, something that he has conveyed multiple times in the past few days.

One might expect a clash for the undisputed heavyweight title to be brimming with animosity. However, in a surprising turn of events, Tyson Fury has declared he holds no personal grudge against his upcoming opponent. This professional courtesy, amidst the intensity of the competition, raises intriguing questions.

Tyson Fury extends post-fight pint invitation to Usyk

Speaking with TNT Sports, Tyson Fury has floated the idea of post-fight pints with his upcoming opponent, Oleksandr Usyk. During his training camp, Fury joked about envisioning himself and Usyk enjoying beers together on the Lancashire coast after their heavyweight clash on May 18th. “No hard feelings after the fight,” Fury emphasized.

Seems like [Usyk]’s a good guy, a family man. I could picture us downing pints at the Hurley Flyer, ten each!” he chuckled. “Two-for-seven quid deal going on – can’t beat that!” This lighthearted banter comes as both fighters prepare to defend their undefeated records. Usyk’s most recent victory came against Fury’s fellow countryman, Daniel Dubois, with a brutal ninth-round knockout.

Will their upcoming fight be followed by a friendly pub session, or will tensions remain high? Only time (and perhaps a few pints) will tell. What do you think about their relationship prior to their fight? Tell us in the comments section.
