The relationship between Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather seems to be coming to a turbulent end after the former announced he would be leaving Mayweather promotions after his fight with Rolando Romero.

Paul Malignaggi reveals the origins of the beef

In an episode of ProBox Tv with Roy Jones Jr., and Antonio Tarver, Paulie Malignaggi spilled the beans on a story that started the whole beef between Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis.

Malignaggi said, “The story I was told at that time was that Floyd gave Gervonta one of his penthouses and one of his apartments in the Palms hotel. He said this is your apartment. I will furnish it for you. He got him a jeep as well. At the time, Gervonta was not a champion and what I was told was Gervonta sold all the furniture, sold the jeep, and went back to Baltimore and bought a Benz.”

Although this is just speculation, if this story is true, then the hostility between the two has been ongoing for a long time.

The history between Gervonta Davis and Floyd Mayweather

Gervonta Davis joined the Mayweather promotions in 2015 and he has been 26-0 under the promotion. Moreover, He has won belts in the super featherweight, super lightweight, and lightweight divisions.

However, we cannot deny that Mayweather Promotions has undoubtedly transformed Davis into one of boxing’s biggest young stars. But they have frustrated fans by failing to put him in the fights many want to see. And with the increase in talent in the lightweight division, there are a lot of potential matchups for Davis.
