Chris Eubank Jr. is coming off a spectacular victory against Liam Smith. ‘The Next Gen,’ was the betting underdog going into the fight. Only back in January of this year, the two met one another in the squared circle. ‘Beefy,’ was evidently the superior boxer and fetched himself a fourth-round stoppage. However, in their second fight, it was Eubank Jr. who was declared the victor by dominating Smith and knocking him out in the tenth round.

Moreover, post his victory, many fans are eager to see him back in the ring. Which leads to the question— against whom? In a recent turn of events, Chris Eubank Jr. has himself called out  Canelo Alvarez. This has ignited distinct reactions from fans and also a former champion.

Legendary boxer weighs in on Canelo Alvarez and Chris Eubank Jr.

The legendary boxer is none other than Johnny Nelson. The former champion had a celebrated career that almost lasted two decades. In an interview, he was asked to weigh in about the potential match-up between Eubank Jr. and Alvarez.

In response,  he suggested that the bout may not be a real possibility or a lucrative one but it is a way to make headlines in the boxing world for Eubank Jr. Nelson stated, “Will Canelo look back at junior and think this is lucrative or financially beneficial to me? He’ll look at it but I do not think it will. But it is good to mention it and get your name in the mix with others out there. So I understand what he’s doing.”

In addition, he thinks this method of being in headlines is laudable. He adds, “Junior is a clever guy. You know, he is smart in what he is doing. You got to give him props.”  Moreover, in the same interview, the legendary boxer was asked if he would be down to witness this bout. Let’s find out on whether he would be interested.

Does Johnny Nelson want to see Alvarez vs. Eubank Jr.?

Nelson does’t find any reason to not be interested in this bout. If anything, he thinks Alvarez can be defeated by Eubank Jr. which makes it worth a watch.
