Is Tyson Fury the best Heavyweight boxer of current times? Many may raise their hands in favor, while some may disagree. But it can’t be denied that Fury’s a top contender in the division, he is the current WBC World Heavyweight Champion. He is rightly undefeated, even after facing the likes of Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora, Vladimir Klitschko, and the list goes on. He’s known for his decent defense and sprawling unpredictable movements, and it’s commendable for a man who reportedly stands tall at 6 feet and 9 inches.

But despite all these remarkable feats, the former Super Middleweight boxer, Carl Froch, didn’t sound impressed with Tyson Fury in his recent conversation on Up Front With Smith Jordan. Froch believes he wants to see more from Fury before he can crown him as the best of the current generation.

Carl Froch scrutinizes the legacy of Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury has remained inactive since the last trilogy fight against Derek Chisora. Although, there were conversations around March, regarding his fight against Oleksandr Usyk, even that got canceled as both fighters couldn’t come to a middle ground for negotiation. This inactivity may start to become a taint in his career, as pointed out by Froch.

Froch wants to see Fury fight more, against the other big names in the division. He told Jordan that he had three fights with Deontay Wilder, who Froch doesn’t even consider a great Heavyweight. He’s an impressive hitter, but he’s not that big, according to Froch. So it was quite easy for him to win against Wilder, still in the first bout, he couldn’t even beat him. Furthermore, Froch said, “If he fights Usyk and he fights Joshua and he makes mincemeat of them then he’ll be the best of a generation.

There were conversations looming to fight against both Anthony Joshua and Usyk, but both of them couldn’t come to fruition. Usyk even accepted the 70/30 split, offered by Fury. But Usyk’s team blamed Fury for not being ready to negotiate, and they moved on to the next fight. As aforementioned, Fury being ‘the best heavyweight’ is a debatable argument, and if there’s opposition, there will obviously be a proposition. And the former Cruiserweight king, Tony Bellew had things to say in Fury’s favor.

Tony Bellew’s statements differed from that of Froch

Back in 2022, Bellew talked about Fury’s might on talkSPORT breakfast. He shared his belief that the current feats of Tyson Fury are enough to make the best of the current generation. Bellew spoke about Tyson Fury being on the list of the “top 5 heavyweights ever”. He can easily be considered among fighters such as Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and Lennox Lewis.

Bellew also asked the host whether he really believes Deontay Wilder could have beaten Lewis, while Fury has overcome Dillian Whyte as well as Wilder. He added, “Tyson Fury is the best of his era and the best of a generation, that can’t be disputed.” So, this has given a different perspective on the career of Tyson Fury, other than what Carl Froch has stated.
