The Ryan Garcia–Devin Haney debacle has been the highlight of the boxing world for a while now. The duo faced in April earlier this year in an intense battle where KingRy defeated Haney comfortably with a dominant performance. However, the New York State Athletic Commission overturned the victory as Garcia tested positive for the PED ostarine.
Since then, both of them have engaged in a heated online battle, exchanging slurs and verbal abuse. The situation escalated so much that ‘The Dream’ filed a lawsuit against Ryan Garcia, accusing him of battery, fraud, and breach of contract. The situation has divided the boxing community, and almost every expert has shared their opinion on the fiasco. On Sunday, former drug lord, Freeway Rick Ross also expressed his opinion on the fight and whether Garcia had an unfair advantage being on Ostarine.

Rick Ross, who led a massive drug empire in LA in the early 1980s, is a huge boxing fan and has several high-profile connections in boxing. So when he sat down with DJ Vlad for an interview, Ross reflected his thoughts on the Haney-Garcia saga. He first revealed that he could not watch the fight live due to poor commitments. “I didn’t watch that fight. I think I was on an engagement when they did that fight, so I missed I missed the fight,” stated Ross.
However, the 64-year-old caught the highlights of the match and concluded that Haney had no answer against KingRy’s left hook. “I saw some highlights though. Devin, you know, kept getting hit with that left hook. They couldn’t figure it out, how to stop that left hook,” stated the drug lord-turned-author.
Ironically, Ryan Garcia also mocked Haney and his camp for being unable to figure out his left hook. The Victorville native uploaded an Instagram post after being sued and wrote, “I’m being sued for doing my job. This fight has been a Netflix documentary but this right here is the finale. Your honor, he simply struggles with left hook syndrome,” while commenting on the absurd nature of the lawsuit.
The 24-1 boxer and his team have maintained innocence in court, stating that the positive result stemmed from contamination rather than deliberate consumption. Furthermore, they added that the amount of Ostarine found in Garcia’s body was so minimal that it wouldn’t have affected the fight. However, Freeway Rick Ross has other ideas regarding the subject.
Ryan Garcia’s unfair advantage
Ross stated that even though the amount of Ostarine found in Ryan Garcia’s body was minimal, no one knows how long he has been doping. ” Some people say, he wasn’t that bad but then you don’t know the days before,” stated Ross.

He then explained how even minimal st***ds can also increase a person’s potential over a long period. He stated, “From what I understand about uh steroids is that you can work out harder, you can lift more weights, your body recovers faster.”
Ross then proceeded to share his own experience with PEDs during his imprisonment. “When I was in the pen(penitentiary) and I lifted weights every day. I would work out and then one day I might be so sore that I didn’t feel like working out. But from what I understand, it was guys in the pen using steroids as well that they didn’t have that same type of tiredness,” implying that the st***ds help the user recover faster.
Therefore, he thinks that doping “gives you an advantage on the work side of the workout,” and surely it would have affected Ryan Garcia no matter how small the amount of Ostarine in his system was.
