If Darren Till still wants to make his return to boxing, he has the opportunity to face former WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders after the Tommy Fury debacle. On Friday, Fury took to Instagram to opt out of his comeback fight against Till, citing safety reasons.

During the official press conference for the fight on January 18, Till told Tommy Fury that if “I can’t beat you, I’ll just kick you in the face in there,” and won’t abide by the rules. The threat ultimately resulted in ‘TNT’ canceling the fight opening the opportunity for Saunders to nominate himself.

After Tommy Fury announced the cancelation of the fight, ‘The Gorilla’ took to his social media to share his views. He remarked, “What’s happening everyone? I just got to the gym now to do my sparring this morning and I’ve been just shown that Tommy Fury has put up a f****ng post saying he is not fighting because of Till threatening to kick him in the head,” adding that he had no idea that the 10-0 boxer would go so far as to cancel their fight.

Till later explained that he had no intentions of breaking the rules and was just saying it as part of his mental tactic to intimidate Fury. He protested, “Tommy Fury you are the biggest sh*thouse I have ever met in my life. Do not ever call yourself a fighter again. I was selling the fight to make me and you more money, you absolute empty head,” stating that ‘TNT’ has ruined a perfectly good payout.

He further added that he does not need to throw kicks and could have knocked out Fury without bending the rules. He was just, “building it(the fight). You should be fighting and should be thanking me… over and out… no one wants to fight me.”

Till then called out Jake Paul for a fight in the hope of getting a reply. “Jake Paul what are you upto you big fat dummy?” stated Till. While The Problem Child gave no reply, Billy Joe Saunders took notice of the rant and called Till out for a fight. Considering that Saunders has not fought in well over 3 years now, it is really a surprising move by British boxer.

Billy Joe Saunders’ comeback

‘Superb’ shared the video of Darren Till on his Instagram story and wrote, “Make a offer I’ll step in. Old fat gipsy boy will take this over from here,” inviting the former UFC star to take action and send him a contract.

The former two-division world champion last fought against Canelo Alvarez in May 2021. The Hertfordshire tried to give Canelo a tough competition, but could not make it past the 8th round after suffering a fractured orbital bone as a result of Alvarez’s repeated punches. It was Billy Saunders’ team who made the call to stop the fight, giving the UK boxer his first and only career defeat.

While talking to talkSPORT, the former WBO Super Middleweight champion said, “Everybody makes decisions for their own good,” while talking about Tommy Fury’s retraction from Darren Till’s fight. However, the former WBO super middleweight champion was adamant to not let this opportunity slide. “But look, at the end of the day as well, we are in the fight game here,” stated Saunders.

He further criticized Tommy Fury’s decision, claiming that ‘TNT’ was the favorite and should not have backed out. Regardless of what he thinks, Saunders knows that this is his chance. The 30-1 boxer accepted that he won’t be as big of a name as Tommy Fury or Jake Paul but, “if he’s gonna lose out on a few quid and there’s someone out there that wants me to step in, then obviously my phone’s there for a conversation to be had,” stated Saunders.
