Reviving yourself back after a doping ban is a Herculean task and Conor Benn seems to be struggling with it currently. The son of Nigel Benn is back this time to fight Rodolfo Orozco, the Mexican veteran. Meanwhile, Matchroom Boxing is having a hard time getting fans to trust their fighter again after such doping allegations.

Eddie Hearn, in an interview with the Boxing News, clarifies what it means to be clear to fight. How much assurance will the fans need now to root for him again?

More trouble for Conor Benn

Conor Benn’s career went for a spin last year when he tested positive twice for the banned drug clomifene after the UK Anti-Doping formally charged him. This was followed by a suspension and a cancellation of the then-upcoming fight with Chris Eubank Jr. which was scheduled to happen in October. Benn’s promoters have moved mountains to get the player back in the ring after his drug test failure. Hearn is now frustrated with all the fingers pointing towards Benn before the final fight.

“We had to go through a process with four commissions to make sure they were comfortable for him to fight.” He lists the four commissions as the ABC of America, Texas, British Boxing Board of Control and Florida while emphasizing the fact that the boxer is now clear to fight. According to Hearn, Benn is clear and allowed to fight and will do so till he loses the case which makes making him not clear to fight.

The organization is not quite happy with the lifting of the suspension on the boxer and has decided to raise an appeal against it. Addressing the appeal, Hearn says, “We keep hearing about an appeal. We have no knowledge of an appeal. We have no date of that appeal. What do you expect him to do?” ‘The Destroyer’ is disappointed with this turn of events.

Allegations and appeals will not stop the show

Benn has made up his mind to go ahead with his fight against Orozco. The fight is happening on September 23 on the Richardson Hitchins vs. Jose Zepeda undercard and is happening at the Caribe Royale Orlando, Florida. Orozco is all pumped for the fight and has thanked Matchroom for the brilliant opportunity. This will be his first fight outside of his homeland and against a British opponent. He aspires to become world champ one day and the bout will decide if he gets off on the right foot.

According to Hearn, Benn has been training rigorously and is in good shape. Twelve months of not fighting has failed to do any damage to the British fighter. He is undaunted and eagerly looking forward to the fight.
