For Rolando Romero, who suffered a TKO loss against Floyd Mayweather‘s prodigy Gervonta Davis, greatness overpowers financial gain in boxing. In his recent interview with FightHype, the former WBA Interim Lightweight title-holder spoke about emulating the success of ‘TBE’. While a number of athletes prioritised money and the lifestyle exhibited by ‘TBE’, Romero is keen on achieving greatness inside the boxing ring. “I don’t box [for] your f*cking money. I don’t give a sh*t about the money, I want to be great. That’s the only reason I want to fight, to be great. I think a lot of people get that sh*t mixed up in boxing,” expressed ‘Rolly’.

Rolando Romero prioritizes performance over money
To strengthen his point of view, Romero referred to the career and success of ‘TBE’ of boxing. According to ‘Rolly’, for Mayweather, material gain followed his successful performances inside the ring. “They want to just you know live like a Floyd Mayweather lifestyle. They want to make a f*ck ton of money. Floyd was great and then he made that sh*t,” added Romero by saying. Romero went on and referred to Mayweather’s fight with Arturo Gatti.
According to Romero, Mayweather’s career is an example of how financial gain obediently follows one’s labour inside the ring. Indeed, Mayweather became the highest-selling athlete. However, he occupied that status after he had already established a respectful resume in boxing. Here’s what ‘Rolly’ added.

Romero strongly believes a resume is necessary. Citing Mayweather’s journey, he said, “That was his first pay-per-view event [Mayweather vs. Gatti]. Floyd became the highest-selling athlete of all time, [and] highest-selling pay-per-view star of all time. “But he did that after he was already doing great sh*ts,” concluded ‘Rolly’ who was roasted by Snoop Dogg after his defeat against Davis.
