Mayweather faced De La Hoya for a highly anticipated bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 5, 2007. The bout titled ‘The World Awaits‘, saw Mayweather fight for the WBC super welterweight title.

It is worth mentioning that the build-up to the fight was of Gargantuan proportions in itself. HBO even released a series called De La Hoya-Mayweather 24/7, which went into the fighter’s training camps.
