Baltimore native Gervonta Davis came off a spectacular knockout victory against Frank Martin last Saturday. Following that, Davis’ former mentor and promoter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. played a sneaky move against his old disciple. Mayweather and Davis have not been on good terms since Davis left Mayweather Promotions in 2022. Since Davis was in the news for his latest win, Mayweather took this opportunity to release an old video of ‘Tank’ getting tough competition from Devin Haney in a sparring session.
After the video was released by Mayweather, former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson analyzed the sparring session between Davis and Haney. Take a look at how he found Davis’ kill shot that would destroy Haney.

The UFC legend is a 15X World MMA Champion and currently the Flyweight World Champion in the One Championship. He also live streams on his YouTube channel where he analyses combat sports fights. After Mayweather released the Davis vs. Haney sparring video, Johnson took the opportunity to break down the fight.
During the sparring, at one point ‘Tank’ released a flurry of punches at Haney, while standing behind his shoulder. Johnson observed it and labeled it as the kill shot that would aid Davis in knocking out Haney. The former UFC champ said, “Look where man Tank is at, behind the shoulder. So no matter what, we all know this man has a couple of options. One, he turns back into Tank, and Tank’s going to give him another fu**ing shot, or he has to run into the corner where he’s stuck. He’s behind that angle, that’s a kill shot right there boys. That’s the difference between Tank’s style and Haney’s style.”
It’s an old video of Haney and ‘Tank’ sparring at the Mayweather boxing gym. The two young boxers went against each other for 18 minutes and fought 6 rounds with the doghouse rules. The doghouse rules refer to a practice where the fight ends when one of the boxers drops or quits the match. But during this sparring bout, neither of them quit. But Mayweather played a sneaky game by releasing the video right after Davis’ win over Martin. Haney comes across as an aggressor during the sparring, which Mayweather may have believed would harm Davis’ reputation. Nevertheless, one fighter has faced off against both Davis and Haney. See for yourself what he said.
