Does Floyd Mayweather's choice of walkout songs give him a psychological edge over his opponents?

Say what you want about Floyd Mayweather Jr—the man knows how to put on a show. Throughout his decorated career in boxing, ‘Money’ has proven himself to be one of the biggest showmen with his ring walks, especially through his choice of songs. As the five-division champion is heading into his upcoming bout against John Gotti III, similar things are expected of him.

After their fight last June turned into a full-on brawl between the two corners, everyone’s buzzing about their August 24th rematch in Mexico. It’s definitely one of the most anticipated fights right now. But for Mayweather’s fans, the excitement isn’t just about the fight—it’s also about his ring walk music. While he hasn’t picked a track yet, checking out the songs he’s used in the past might give us a clue about what we could hear.

During his exhibition fight against Logan Paul on June 6, 2021, at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, Mayweather made quite the entrance. He walked out with the Atlanta rap trio Migos by his side, who totally hyped up the crowd by performing their single ‘Straightenin’ from their then-upcoming album ‘Culture III.’ The energy was off the charts, with Migos leading the way as part of Mayweather’s massive entourage.

But that wasn’t all—once they were in the ring, Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo took the stage, dropping his hit ‘Time Today’ from his album ‘A Gangsta’s Pain’. It was the perfect blend of music and sports, adding some serious flair to an already huge event.

Conor McGregor

For his big fight against Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather made his entrance to Meek Mill‘s ‘Ima Boss.’ The track’s intensity and powerful lyrics were a perfect fit for the vibe of the event, making it the ideal choice for Mayweather’s walkout.

What made it even cooler was the personal nod to Mayweather in the lyrics, “At the fight we watchin’ Floyd we on the floor.” It added a special touch, really highlighting Mayweather’s status as a boxing legend. The fight itself ended with Mayweather securing a 10th-round technical knockout, capping off his last professional bout with an unforgettable entrance.

Oscar De La Hoya

Up next, during his highly anticipated fight against Oscar De La Hoya on May 5, 2007, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather made his entrance to 50 Cent’s ‘Straight to the Bank.’ Dubbed ‘The Super Bowl of Boxing,’ the event had an epic feel right from the start. 50 Cent, who was a close friend of Mayweather at the time, performed the song live as he walked alongside the boxer to the ring.

What made this moment even more special was that ‘Straight to the Bank’ was the lead single from 50 Cent’s album Curtis, and this was the first time it was performed live in front of an audience. It really added to the grandeur of what became one of the biggest events in boxing history.

Marcos Maidana I and II

Don’t forget his first fight against Marcos Maidana on May 3, 2014. Floyd Mayweather really turned up the excitement by walking out with Lil Wayne, who performed his newly released track ‘Believe Me.’ The song, featuring Drake, which dropped only a few days after the fight, was from Lil Wayne’s much-anticipated album ‘Tha Carter V.’ It was a high-energy entrance that set the tone for the fight.

In their rematch later that same year, Mayweather kept the hype going by walking out to ‘The Money Team,’ a track by Jay Bling featuring P-Reala and Lil Jamez. This choice further highlighted Mayweather’s brand and his strong connection with his crew, The Money Team.
