Is Terence Crawford truly the one to shatter Floyd Mayweather's legendary undefeated streak?

Boxing fans love a good debate, don’t they? A debate that has been going on for a very long time is to pick the winner between Floyd Mayweather and Terence CrawfordFans, pundits, and even fighters have weighed in their opinions regarding a fight between a prime ‘Money’ and ‘Bud’. The best thing about this debate is that everyone has a different answer, and the world is divided.

A few days ago, the former two-weight class champion Tim Bradley picked Crawford when he was asked the same question. He stated that Bud has a lot more to offer in the ring and will defeat Mayweather. But last month, Ryan Garcia picked Mayweather as the clear winner, stating that “he is different.” That is why when BoxRaw asked fans about their opinion regarding the fight, the internet blew up, but once again we never reached a conclusion.

BoxRaw took to its ‘X’ account and posted a picture of Money and Crawford in a collage. The picture showcases both the stars in action and the caption read, “Two greats. One winner. Who you got? 🔥,” urging fans to pick their winner out of the two.

It is certainly not an easy pick. Both of these boxers are undefeated in their career. Mayweather retired with a record of 50-0 and picked up championships in five different weight categories from super-featherweight to super-welterweight.

Well, Crawford is not far behind with a record of 41-0, he is yet to face a defeat. He has also picked up championships in four different weight classes from lightweight to super-welterweight. Currently, he is holding world titles in two different divisions and is looking for that ultimate fight against Canelo Alvarez, which will put him on the undisputed list of greats.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Terence Crawford truly the one to shatter Floyd Mayweather's legendary undefeated streak?

Have an interesting take?

Even without that Alvarez fight, the Nebraska native has many notable victories in his career to let anyone doubt his abilities. Most fans would choose him over most boxers, but things get tricky when people start fantasizing about his fight against Floyd Mayweather. As that was the case, the consensus of fans remained completely divided on the opinion, ensuring a heated debate in the comment section of BoxRaw’s post.

Fans predict a ‘Murder’

A fan wrote, “At 135 Floyd by murder any 147 Floyd by split decision.” He predicted Mayweather as the clear winner via a knockout at the lightweight. But he also accepted that things could get interesting in the welterweight class, which is Crawford’s best weight, and he currently holds both WBC and WBO titles in that category. But even though the fan predicted an interesting fight, he was sure that Money would edge it out via decision.

Another fan supported The Pretty Boy and wrote, “Floyd. Easily. Because they both rely on that range control and Floyd is a lot sharper and faster than Bud. Smarter too.” While that is not entirely true, the point holds a certain value. Both Crawford and Mayweather were similar in that they had exceptional defense skills and high ring intelligence. Both of them used to read their opponents and dictated the pace of the fight according to their liking. And according to this fan, the Michigan native was far better at it than Crawford.

As the interactions increased, the support for Crawford started flowing in. A fan wrote, “Crawford stops him..🥊,” implying that Bud will stop Floyd Mayweather’s 50-match undefeated streak. Another fan dissected both fighters’ style and wrote, “Bud is bigger longer arm reach, and more athletic is technically sound there are no weaknesses for Floyd to exploit clinching is completely useless he is at a disadvantage in almost every single way and horrible match for Floyd he’d lose,” ultimately declaring Crawford as the winner.

While the fan had a point, it was not entirely true. Mayweather has defeated several boxers in his career with longer reach than him, including the great Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya. Furthermore, it wasn’t till late in his career that Mayweather shifted to a defensive style courtesy of injuries. Before that, he was a knockout machine winning 25 of his first 28 fights via knockout.

Another fan who looked frustrated with this comparison wrote, “Mayweather. Crawford has gone from being underappreciated to massively overrated recently.” While the fan acknowledges the greatness of Crawford, according to him, he is nowhere near Floyd Mayweather. For him, the hype that Bud has started getting recently has put him into the overrated category.

Well, we might never get the correct answer to this debate, but it is still a nice debate to have. Two absolute greats of their eras, dividing fanbase right from the center, is the stuff that makes boxing such an interesting sport. Who is your pick between Terence Crawford and Floyd Mayweather?
