The recent exhibition match between Floyd Mayweather and Deji was not the best bout in terms of pure boxing. However, the event did make history for other reasons, as it became the first-ever boxing event to be streamed in the Metaverse.

This was made possible by MetaVerseBooks which is one of the first companies to build a fully functional entertainment platform. This platform was then used to stream the event in the metaverse. The ticket price to attend and watch the event in MVB Worlds metaverse was $14.99.

Moreover, the success of this event has led the company to take on the job of broadcasting two of Mayweather’s next exhibition bouts as well. The company will start promoting the second Mayweather fight in December, as it is reported to be contested in February.

This was not all, as the CEO of the company Delence A. Sheares Sr. was proud to share that his company would be broadcasting the event. “We are delighted to be the first tech company to put on a world-class boxing match in the metaverse and make history with Floyd Mayweather,” he said.

Sheares also went on to explain how the technology would be able to broadcast this bout in a fictional metaverse. “MetaVerseBooks, our new, cutting edge metaverse system, featuring Unreal 5 engine operating on the web, was the next natural extension of my family’s continued quest to remain on the cutting edge of all digital technologies,” he added

Despite the event being a lackluster show of boxing, some good has come out of it in terms of technological advancement. Moreover, this could point to how fans could experience fights and sports shows in the future with this technology.

Floyd Mayweather addresses criticism over exhibition matches

The bout with Deji was Mayweather’s fifth exhibition bout since retiring from the sport. This has led him to be on the receiving end of criticism from fans who feel ‘Money’ is ruining his legacy. However, Mayweather feels that his bank balance is more important than his status as a boxer.

“A lot of time people say, ‘Oh, Floyd have to do exhibitions. My philosophy is never stop getting it (money). Currency over legacy. Currency over legacy. Believe me, if I don’t ever do another exhibition in my life, I can live a great life.” he said after his bout with Deji.

Mayweather has always been the one who valued his wealth over everything. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that he will continue to compete in these bouts despite them tarnishing his legacy.
