Although he planned a UK return in terms of an exhibition fight, Mayweather felt Hatton was no more the opponent he would want to meet. Mayweather squared off against Hatton on 12th August, 2007, with the WBA World Welterweight title on the line. “Why do it [fight] for fake? Ricky Hatton, we had our chance. The great thing at that particular time is that he was at the top of his game,” Mayweather replied by saying.
At the time Mayweather fought Hatton, both the fighters were on top of their games and in their prime. In fact, Hatton was undefeated with a record comprising 0 losses and 43 wins.

Since Mayweather believes Ricky Hatton no more holds the excitement he did when Mayweather fought him the first time, ‘TBE’ would like to move on and pass him. “I have always been at the top of my game. When they fought 15 years ago, Mayweather was 30 and Hatton was 29. The fight was scheduled for 12 rounds, but in round 10, Mayweather snatched a TKO win. At that time, ‘Money’ had conquered one of the biggest stars of British boxing. Hatton retired 5 years earlier than Mayweather did. He retired with a record of 3 losses and 45 wins.
