When sports rivalries turn personal, the thrill of competition sours into something ugly. The Gervonta Davis–Terence Crawford rivalry is proof that you don’t need to share a ring for things to get messy. A few months ago, their long-time rivalry took an ugly turn when Tank slugged a vicious barb at Crawford’s wife. The rivalry, which was beforehand restricted to them and their boxing careers, started when Tank sided with his then-friend, Errol Spence Jr. against Crawford in 2023. The pair had been trading barbs and taunts ever since. It escalated when Bud sneakily mocked the WBA lightweight champion for not being invited to the prestigious Ring Magazine awards gala in London in January.
That’s when Davis dropped his since-deleted tweet that lit up the internet. The boxing community condemned Davis’ outburst, including boxing insider Rick Glaser terming the remarks as “Very low by Tank Davis.” Now, nearly two months after the uproar, Floyd Mayweather has stepped in, urging the two to ditch their bitter feud.

Floyd Mayweather asks fighters to stick together
In a recent interview with FightHype TV, Floyd Mayweather couldn’t hide his excitement about Terence Crawford finally landing his dream bout against Canelo Alvarez. “I think Terence Crawford right now, in the sport of boxing, is the pound-4-pound best fighter in the sport of boxing right now. It’s good to see him in the position that he’s in,” the 50-0 boxer stated.
Mayweather didn’t stop there, showering praise on the Nebraskan’s personal life as well. “I think he has a beautiful family. I think he has a beautiful wife. A beautiful queen, a black queen. And there’s nothing better than a black woman in this world,” he said. The Michigan native immediately clarified that it was his own opinion and no one else had to agree with it.
Turning to the messy Gervonta Davis feud, Money May’s tone shifted to regret. “I think just in the sport of boxing right now, we need to start sticking more together. Pushing each other to be great instead of arguing on social media that’s just my opinion. And push each other in a positive way,” he advised.
Reflecting on his own past, the undefeated legend got candid. “I found myself in the past, you know the younger Floyd Mayweather going back and forth on the internet with different people. But I’m in a better place in my life right now,” he confessed.
It looks like Terence Crawford is also ready to bury the hatchet with Gervonta Davis as he offered the latter a huge opportunity on possibly the biggest card of the year.

Gervonta Davis would never play second fiddle
The two-division undisputed champion knows what his fight against Canelo Alvarez means for the boxing world. It might not only be the biggest event of 2025 but will echo through the sport’s history. With that in mind, the Nebraskan tossed out a bold idea to The Ring: why not spice up the card with a Shakur Stevenson-Gervonta Davis co-feature?
Stevenson has been gunning for Gervonta Davis for a while now. Crawford sees the September Riyadh Season as the perfect stage to set it up. “It should be crazy [Davis vs Stevenson], on Crawford and Canelo. That would be dope,” stated the Nebraskan.

However, the 37-year-old realizes that it’s a long shot as Gervonta Davis would never play second fiddle, that too for Terence Crawford. “If Tank was not so cocky to be on a Terence Crawford undercard, that would be dope. But I don’t see Tank taking a backseat to any fighter because he will think it’s the Tank show. So I don’t know. But it should be a good undercard,” he said.

While Tank has kept silent on the idea, even Shakur Stevenson isn’t sold on the idea. He took to his ‘X’ to respectfully decline Bud’s offer, claiming that their fight deserves to headline an event. So, that’s concluded.
Seeing Canelo, Crawford, Davis, and Stevenson on the same card would indeed have been magnificent. Alas, we do not live in a perfect world. What is your opinion on the entire Crawford-Davis feud?
