Former five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather, is one of the richest athletes of all time. Rightfully called, ‘Money’ Mayweather, his exorbitant purchases are the stuff of legend in the world of sports. In fact, he recently splashed a massive amount of money on a few expensive pieces of art at a popular art festival.

Art Basel is a for-profit, privately owned, and internationally organized art festival. Moreover, it is considered one of the most comprehensive contemporary art fairs and is held annually in Basel, Miami, Hong Kong, and Paris.

The festival is a platform for local galleries to display and sell their artworks to buyers. Mayweather was recently present at the Miami faction of Art Basel, along with his friends. The event also saw many other notable names, like Sylvester Stallone, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martha Stewart, in attendance.

Mayweather, who is currently worth USD 1.2 billion, was at the SCOPE Art Show at the festival. He then proceeded to pick out 10 – 12 pieces of art from the wall. It was reported, that Mayweather’s purchases cost him a whopping USD 3.1 million. Another interesting fact was that all this money was spent in under 60 minutes.

An interesting point to note is that this amount is around 30% of Mike Tyson’s net worth.

Floyd Mayweather Jr’s most expensive purchases

While USD 3.1 million might have been a jaw-dropping amount for most mortals. It is what can be considered as spare change for the richest boxer in the world. Moreover, this purchase does not hold a candle to the champ’s extortionate spending sprees.

One of his most ludicrous purchases is the Jacob & Co Billionaire Diamond Tourbillion. This timepiece, which is encrusted with 325 emerald-cut diamonds, is worth a whopping USD 18 million.

Another notable purchase is his Gulfstream G650 private jet. Named, ‘Air Mayweather, this castle in the skies set the champ back by USD 60 million.

Mayweather has a special love for some jaw droppingly priced bling. Keeping this in mind, jeweller Peter Marco was also able to persuade the champ to splurge USD 2.3 million on a VVS diamond ring.
